Hello everyone. I thought I would share what I did to the BMW 850 this past August. The whole project took me upwards of 50 hours total (5 weeks) to complete and consisted of the replacement of the following
Valve stem seals
Banjo bolts and oil sprayer bars
Valve cover gaskets
Intake manifold flanges
Fuel injectors (12)
Fuel pressure regulators (2)
Crank case ventilation valves
Valve/camshaft timing
Ignition leads, coils, caps and rotors
All fuel supply and return hoses
Degreasing and cleaning engine bay
Powder coating intake manifolds and valve covers
Ceramic coating exhaust manifold and shields
Not sure if I missed anything else :omgrofl:

Before and after manifold (after degreasing, power washing, soda blasting. Not powder coated yet)

Banjo bolts and oil spray bars (Those are the parts that lubricate the camshafts. The original bolts have a common problem of coming loose and starve the camshafts. Notice the blue loctite on the new bolts

An example of one valve seal replaced ( I was able to do this with the heads on but a special valve spring compressor from Midlock had to be used to get the job done) I used a bungee rope inside the combustion chamber with the piston on TDC to keep the valves from falling down the combustion chambers

The result is a car that runs better than when it came out of the factory 20 years ago.
Thanks for viewing
Enjoy my friends

Yes, Richard needs a V12

Nice work Hadi!

I was not willing to spend that much on new Intake gaskets...

Greetings Thomas

Hadi, what is the exact colour of the paint (ie my 840 is Cosmic Black and the 850 is Diamond Black)
and whats the secret polish and technic to the shine?

Thanks for the comments guys.

Richard, the color is schwarz black. No secret to the shine, when I bought the car 5 years ago I had it completely disassembled and sent it to a good bodyshop in the area to have it repainted. The key to an orange peel free paint job is after applying the coats of clear is to color sand it starting with 1200 grit up to 3000 grit then compound, polish, glaze. you'll get a mirror finish or (Piano finish) is what Rolls Royce calls it.

Since I did most of the disassembly and assembly myselft, it didn't cost me the high price.
Anyways, the way I maintain it is using the following products
Random Orbital like the one made by Porter Cable
Meguiars M105 compound for heavy scratches (never had to use it)
Meguiars M205 ultra finishing polish applied with the machine (it is a fine polish that gives the paint that wet deep look)
Meguiars synthetic sealant for protection and nice reflection.

Cheers

Wow! What a nice engine you have there mate! Well, my friend is in search of bmw parts and other things to add on his car because he wanted to gain more hp and torque on his car. If my friend sees this post, he would definitely be envious of your engine. That is some true power you have there in your car. Impressive!
