I was tempted to fit some extra bits last night and attempt to jump to 15 hp, but then I realized that this is a demo kart, not a dragster!

I can't seem to leave well enough alone... I'm working on raising the power levels again to make things more interesting. My biggest focus is cooling the piston on the gas and lowering the risk of detonation.

BTW, the piston looks practically brand new after inspecting it from the ports... nitrous is GOOD for engines!

Just finished the installation and bench testing of the additions: OK TO GO!!!

Only thing left is waiting for the paint to dry and then it'll be a wrap for testing at INCREASED LEVELS!

I hit a small snag after overlooking one KEY aspect to the success of the new additions (not actually new LOL). I won't reveal yet what I'm up to yet, but I will say that the need to aim the nitrous and fuel into the carb became absolute. While what I ended up with is FAR from what I really wanted to do (to achieve the optimum), I had to use what was at my disposal without spending any extra funds (I already spent the budget required for my goals).

The engine should be set for an additional 10 hp... 15 additional hp may be really pushing it, but I don't think anyone has ever discovered the absolute max this thing can take. I'll have to choose the settings on the minimax carefully.

Also there are absolutely no mods on the engine at all. Although it would benefit from some exhaust porting, but to keep true to this concept I'll leave it totally stock.

Oh god this is crazy... :drunken:

This engine LOVES nitrous! Went for a 7-7.5 hit and it was gooood. I did try higher hits but I'm having some trouble matching the nitrous flow and I think I know why, I just need to confirm: it was running way too rich with gas still in the bottle. I bet I can easily do a 11-11.5 hit since that's the next step up with the higher propane pressure. Then perhaps even more? The minimax allows me the time needed to apply the nitrous without overloading. Love this thing!

Is it crazy that this kart has made over 20 bhp with 17+ of that nitrous on a 46cc air-cooled? I couldn't even control it very well at all with the uneven tires in the drive axle. I toned it down to about 17-18 bhp in total (estimated)... it's FAST!!! And reliable!!! It's also how laughingly slow it is on N/A power with this tall gearing, yet it pulls nasty on the gas! Can't get enough of the lovely nectar!

I'll post updates whenever I can. Sorry no video this time. :blackeye:

I went out today for a bit of a sunday drive and had a play with the spray... I hadnt used my nitrous for a few weeks, due to the cold weather, and mainly using my car for shortish journeys, where its not worth turning the bottle on and warming it up... so you kinda get used to a certain amount of power...

boy I had forgotten about how instant the power is with nitrous

Another win for nitrous! Unlike having a full-time power adder, you tend to FORGET what the thrill of the added power feels like after a time and it is as if feeling it for the first time all over again! Think about it, by now you'd probably be numb to the sensation of a turbo or super by now and would be aching for more, which ends up being a constant chase for that unicorn feeling!

Anyway, here are the updated pics and don't freak over the generic solenoid, I just re-purposed it and I'm well aware of the risks associated with it. If I had another Pulsoid to spare, I would use it instead.

The generic bottle and solenoid is used for water injection to cool the piston and it is REQUIRED for this unmodified 2 stroke, or else the piston would seize up. This engine is completely STOCK to the bone and has withstood 16-17+ HP worth of nitrous with more to go! It is really hard to keep the kart straight with this power since my tires are uneven in the back, but it does pull hard!
Also notice that I'm using a Crossfire to direct the N/F mix directly into the engine, simply 'fogging' the air box was no longer working correctly; I wanted to use two Venom injectors but this was what I had on hand and it JUST makes it far enough to get close to the center of the bore, while leaving room for the water spray to enter the carb as well.

Got me some GAAAAAAAAAS!!!

I finally found a reliable source to get my fills from, and with my change in status, I'll be looking at using some in my GO-QUAD!

While no longer used for demo purposes, the go-quad of DOOM is still my personal toy and is now geared lower for lesser top speed and more acceleration (approx 45 mph as opposed to 56). Mostly, the lack of large running areas for braking force me to lower the max speed. On the upside, it is a trade off for more acceleration!

To top off the project, I've switched back to applying 15 BHP jets for an approximate 20 BHP from this 49cc 2 stroke! Water injection still applies, and yes, I have tested such power before with good results (and my nuts performing a mass exodus!). Minimax is still in play for a 30% start over a short 3 seconds. Should be a lot of fun in a 60 lb vehicle!

I don't know what the limit is of the engine, as far as I know this is the most power produced from this model. With enough water, 30 bhp may be possible but potentially suicidal!!!

The downside is that I have no way of transporting it to my usual testing spot: it doesn't fit in the mustang.

For some reason I haven't seen this thread until now.

Awesome results and extremely interesting that you've added water injection and found it to be so beneficial Alex.

What made you try that, did you have a failure first at a lower power level and then decided to give water a try?

I'm pretty sure that this MUST be the highest HP gain per cc EVER achieved.

Prior to this I'd say my 28 HP (a 24 HP increase) from a 200 cc Vespa scooter would be the record holder.

I'll attempt to take some good pics, but there will also be some new video to demo the large power increase. Not much has changed on it except for using venoms n place of the crossfire.

The water inj came from YOU, actually lol. I asked about an alternative to piston machining and you said to either use alky or water inj to cool the piston. At first I used an inline jet to lower the flow rate so it wouldn't bog the the engine, except that the engine doesn't bog at all on nitrous even with the full flow of the 25 spray nozzle at 80 psi on the gauge.

The minimax works wonders with tuning the power because it gets mental when full flow hits.

I have other toys that make adding nos to any vehicle a snap and only takes SECONDS to apply. Totally self sufficient.

I've just seen the pics on the first age which will do for now.

I'd forgotten about that but remember now (didn't know what it was being fitted to at the time), so why are you using a generic solenoid?

EXCELLENT and it's a shame that it won't be possible to actually measure the power on the gas, as that would mean more than how much is being supplied to the motor.

The minimax works wonders with tuning the power because it gets mental when full flow hits.
Glad to hear it and just as I'd expect with such large power gains on such a small engine.

Would that be based around the prototype product we made for you a couple of years ago?

I use the generic solenoid because it was on hand at the time. I hadn't planned on the water system so I threw it together using parts in my junk box. It's the same system from that debacle that got me into trouble. Either way it works enough and it is not pulsed but rather fixed hit.

I know that there is no real way to measure the power without using accelerometer type dynamometer. I have that but I've had trouble isolating vibration from it so it won't record the runs.

Yes, it is an sfbk system except it is not hand held. Rather another idea when we discussed bikes (progressively controlled also). Then there is another system based on the larger dyno system that can be equipped to any car or truck without permanent mounting. It was meant as a rental system with a fixed hit of up to 50 bhp extra (more with larger pulsoids). Fits in less than a few minutes. Both operate with a rechargeable lithium ion battery so it charges in less than 30 minutes. Optionally, powered by a fag (that's a cigarette for U.S. folks) lighter socket.

I believe there are phone apps available that can give you power figures calculated from G whilst in your pocket, so that might be worth looking into. ;-)

That's what I have. Others require an actual box to connect to in order to obtain data. I'll have to create a mount that isolates vibes so that the signal to the accelerometer is clean to calc the g force.

An update for my GoQuad:

I decided to invert the fuel can so that the system uses gaseous propane rather than the liquid. If you've seen my videos, you'll notice some stall outs and stumbles that make it difficult to disengage and re-engage the nitrous system resulting in some botched runs. Another problem was that because of the fuel lag, the pulsing performance was affected but it is not very noticeable on the kart. It was very noticeable on my scooter with a similar set up.

Now this is only affecting small engines with some sort of an automatic clutch where the engine cannot pump the excess fuel through.

With the gaseous propane, the problem is eliminated and the performance under pulse is as normal. The downside is the limit of the nitrous system falls under the fuel flow max as gaseous fuel is far less dense than liquid. Luckily, the system still flows enough to more than quintuple the standard engine power (approx. 4 bhp).
