Perry managed to get in to a very exclusive club (due to having very few members), for people who have managed to damage engine components while using WON products, but it certainly wasn't due to the system itself malfunctioning.
Mainly due to pushing a stock engine to see just how far it would go before something let go
Part of my early R&D involved scrap motors that we could tinker with. And a good amount of "I wonder what would happen if" tests
One of the funny ones was a backfire that blew the bonnet off its hinges. But after a quick tinker back in the pits we raced it an hour later all ok ??
I can now fine tune a 4.6 V8 to run nitrous and go very quick, I can tune one to go quick and melt pistons, and I can even tune one to go quick and just crack the pistons
I have a big list of tune up settings on a chart. A lot of them have red X's next to them. Two of the tunes have big green Ticks next to them.
I guess I have had the luxury of a shed load of engines to play with that cost me nothing. Its been beneficial because my Son just built his first nitrous motor (scrap 4.6 with oval liners) He took the details of the relevant tune from the chart and went straight out and ran a 12.1 after shakedowns
