NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum

hello guys....got a astra 1.9 cdti with eds map to 220ps...got plenty black smoke but really dont feel the nos kicking in ,nos is going through the venom injector fine which is sited after intercooler ,tried 50 and 100 jets ,was running a rather poor quality air filter system which i have changed to dbilas flowmaster and since that can say i dont really feel the nos ,could feel it slightly with old filter fitted....any ideas guys.....cheers joe

well being a diesel head myself injector before the turbo sounds odd, mine is after the intercooler...

being a total newbie ive been going through all the threads....few things to ask and please excuse my lack of knowledge.... ,..

i have gas coming out of bottle so i assumed that meant there was still liquid in it but from what i read thats not the case so to check i should swirl bottle and listen

my pulsoid is sitting horizontal and tie wrapped securely..should i have this mounted solid to metal.does it need to have a metal fixing for any reason

i have a nos heater but no pressure valve fitted ,as far as i can see thats not to clever either

and also i dont have my line from bottle a 100% pointing downwards

first off! it does not indicate that there are any useable gas in the bottle even if there is coming something out!
I had the same idear... try to pick it up and feel if its heavy..

2nd. do you have a pressure gauge? it has to have more than 900psi..
(if the pressure is low) do you have a bottle heater? low pressure low gain...

when you press the nos does the black smoke disappear?

im guessing its just gas thats left in the bottle as i could feel the nos working when i installed the system....i have a bottle heater on but had it on without pressure gauge fitted which im guessing is not so clever...done the pedal test holding around 2500rpm and pressing micro switch ..no change ...i will check bottle for liquid..im now pretty sure thats what it is.....

The test dont always work with diesels joe...i know trev is going to point you to his book, this really is a good idea for getting your head filled with all the answers you need, my simple setup should apply to you too, bottle heater ,pressure gauge (mine is in the car) and weighting the bottle with tell you if theres nitrous in it... with the bracket and blanket still attached mine is 6.07 kilo when totally empty...

can you advise me on the best scales/method of weighting for accurate reading....and also what fittings etc for gauge on bottle

ordinary DIGITAL bathroom scales will suffice joe...have a look in the on-line shop for fittings,when trev sees this thread he will point you in the best direction im certain

this was on my car with very little smoke to begin with so not so mutch "fuel" for the nitrous to burn! but still gives a kick!

problem solved guys......no liquid...just gas...

thankyou so much for your help guys its gave me the answers i need ,just to buy the bottle gauge now to work with my won heater now which im sure trev will guide me......

excuse my lack of knowledge once again...it does have a pressure switch...its a gauge it does not have....all my parts etc are won,i would not take a chance with anything else hence 3 other purchase from yourselves in the last few days

A gauge would be beneficial and it is supplied with the appropriate fittings, so NO additional extras required.

ordered one with yourselves a couple of hours ago.....

more questions guys lol.....how much nitrous in weight would you expect in an 11 lb bottle when its full.....just so i know what to expect when i get it back ..cheers

All bottles have 2 weights stamped in the necks;
1) The TARE weight is the empty weight
2) The GROSS weight is the full weight which is 11lbs higher than the TARE weight.

A better way to deal with it is to weigh the bottle empty and just add 11lbs to that for the full weight, as this will then account for the permanently affixed brackets and valve weights.

that sounds like the most accurate way of doing it trev...i had a look at the won videos to identify the way the nitrous should come out of solenoid ..a white colour and if its clearish its just gas i assume...also i gather its best to keep solenoid as cold/cool as possible....

all sorted out now...and got a healthy 241bhp and 400lb/ft torque with the nos
