Really envious of all the fun you guys have had!!

By contrast I sent the morning taking the clutch out of the F'Blade and seeing how little friction lining was left and how blue the steel rings had got. Probably best to break down at home though!
Got a new set of liners and rings ordered and some Barnett MT99 Gold heavy duty springs coming. Hopefully that will keep the power going to the wheels.

Looking forward to the next meeting.

if steels are oki ya can clean them up with a scotch bright pad , need to check they flat tho , when ya rebuild you might want to consider semi synth oil change out a bit more offen my wet clutch dont like fully synth , also look at steels trev will advise ya but i understand best mod is to surface grind old ones dead flat and make up stack with another one , i belive APE off this kind of kit as a repalcement

Ref. bike clutch plates; No matter how bad the plates are, take this opportunity to have them SURFACE GROUND to make them PERFECTLY FLAT then the springs will be able to do their job better. :idea:

Scott, this is me you're talking to here, I'd have enjoyed nothing more than a run in the wet as it's far more challenging and entertaining!!!!

Here's a couple of episodes I've lived through at York in my 10 sec Escort V8 without a need for fresh underwear (lol);
1) Slipped it in to reverse as I crossed the finish line at over 120 mph - at which point the car executed a number of pirouettes before continuing on as though nothing had happened, albeit in the wrong lane.
2) Due to a damp track I shot off in to the field (I was in left lane, long ago when there no armco) and because I wasn't aware that you got disqualified if you left the track, I kept my boot in and came back on to the track just past the 1/8 and still beat the guy in the other lane to the 1/4 mile.
3) Hit 750 hp (3 stages of nitrous) right at the start and the car nearly took out the start lights, came to almost 90 degrees to the track but I still kept the power in and still ran an 11.1 sec 1/4.

That was all when I was a lot younger but I think I could still show you young lads how to cover the 1/4 a bit quicker. :yes:

I also forgot to mention that at one York meeting the track didn't dry quickly enough, so Murt asked all the racers if they were prepared to race in the wet - guess who was THE ONLY ONE who wanted to!!!!

All the rest were poor drivers with no bottle - me I'm an out and out ALL WEATHER street racer through and through, who'll take on all-comers regardless of the conditions, because the same conditions apply to everyone involved. :idea:

Next time we go I'll make sure to park up in the right pit area DOH!!

That way I'll get rid of all me tea bags. Lets not forget thanks to Steve and Dave. While I was leaning in the engine bay sorting my dodgy crimp on the fuel pulsoid, with hailstones falling down my arse crack, they kept coming over and offering help. Then they helped me do the static fuel test until I got petrol where I needed it.

I still have jaw ache from grinning for the 200 mile trip back.

When I got my Trophy, I was already on the line in full stage when the start Marshall knocked on the window. I thought I was going to be pushed back for dripping fluid or sommat. But he said "I thought you would like to know that you have won the best in class for your car for the day" Then he handed me the trophy, shook my hand and said, "off you go" at which point the light went green :shock: I was still winding my window up as I launched for my first 11.8 run. What a hoot...Then I rrealised there were only 3 or 4 retro motors in the line. But hey, it was nice to see my MG beat that big silver Yank motor wasnt it.

Tezz, how do you and Simon put up with hot sunshine in those leathers? I was roasting a couple of times during the day. And dont forget, whenever we race together, I always have petrol and a compressor in the truck. I love my gadgets.

Was it Gareth with the white Golf, I'd have said hello if I'd known. I thought he was a potential new customer getting some advice. Hello Gareth, I was the fat grey bloke with the black MGB.

I pissed myself when Trev told me the story of getting into Scotties Lotus for a test drive :D

I'm now going to talk to Debs to see if she would do a pass in my car as she weighs 10 stone less than me.
I'm also looking forward to the Retro show on 5th July now to see how these tyres behave on a prepped strip. I'll try to do an early run on fresh glue as well.

So I now know I've hit a sweet spot on the tune and build.
Fuel 6psi
Nitrous 850-900 psi
Static timing 6 BTDC
Retard 2.5 degree's
150 shot on 30% start.
Ramp time 2.8 seconds.

I'm leaving it all set as is for the Pod on 5th July.
The only thing I'm doing is trimming my lines down to equal length which I should have done ages ago.

I have to admit, it was reassuring to have Trev on the start line asking about setup and offering words of encouragement. When I did a little dance and showed him my 11.56 second timing slip, he said "About F*****g time Perry, but your only playing at it man, there's plenty more left in that engine yet" :bow:

When I think about it, my mate Adam with the red Jago Jeep runs a Rover 5 litre with a 180 shot, and he PB'd at 10.5 on Sunday. So as the Wizard say's, theres a bit more in the old dog yet.

Now I'm thinking about how it would run with the silencers fitted. I'll give it a try on 5th July for a comparison I think.

So whens the next WON York bash???

which brings me to partA of ignition repairs, i got a new high power coil from HQ today ;)
and partB, ill be ordering new magnacour leads off won this week once ive measured them up :twisted:

now trevs shown me how to read his book ;) ill do a retest once its all fitted and post a result :D

also ill not be trying to run empty bottles anymore :omgrofl:

And the only reason you PB'd on sunday was due to me having 6 pints of Cider on Saturday night.. I pissed in your tank when you and Simon went off to buy a burger :D :D

If you are free on the 5th July I can get you a pit pass to park up with the MG Drag Racing Club in the pits where all the FAST motors park up. We can park your scooter by the BBQ. At least that way folk can say its a HOT bike :D

Great to meet you Tezz, still in amazement you can get a 10.5 bloody will done in those conditions!!!!. Missed your last run as was running on fumes and had to limp to motorway for a refill. I'm sure if you ask Trev he will say that wasn't rain!!! Just hydrogen and a oxigen molecule build up?!?!

Trev, tis concerning you tell me & punters stories about veering off the track, through the grass and re-joining the strip.... Maybe if i adjust suspension up off rubber stops an inche or so u can take it off road... Maybe not...

I'm trying to see if I can hook up with some Ford boys at the 1/8th mile strip near Exeter somewhere. I just need to find where it is. Then I need a date of when one of these events is on. I know they call it Saturday Street wars / Sunday street race / Saturday night fever or sommat???
Its left off the M5 before you get to Exeter from Bristol I think.

Mmmm could be interesting... fair trip for me... sounds a bit specific if it's directed at Fords...

Been looking around for somewhere local I can practice. Cause I need it if i'm ever gona look at joining the 11->10 second club!!!!

Anybody ever tried Long Marston airfield near Stratford on Avon. Initally i'm not bothered about timing gear, i just need to work on the launch without plod. I wanna start with serious progressive build times and working down to the minimum traction allows!!

I've now decide got curve on max build up completely wrong for a light car so wanna do some tests without pressure of someone at side wanting the easy kill. Gotta get the downforces working to keep back end from spinnin... well that's my latest thoughts!!!!

You know i'm kidding, always loved Carpi's especially early styling. Keep it alive, it will do you prowd!!! (Soz for spellin AGAIN!)

Mmmm might take a trip out Sunday to Long Marston. Just to check it out and see what's happening. Saturday gotta sort engine mount, sounds like drive shaft is snagging on low rpm set-off. Only happended since i change engine mount to stop air box hitting GRP body (Pre-York race so not result of Sunday!!)

There arn't any RWYB till Sept. and can't believe there arnt any at SantaPod or Long Marston.

I think York has RWYB most race weekends and although it might be a long drive, the track time more than makes up for that. I'd rather spend time getting to an event that I know I'd get plenty of runs at, than drive a few miles and sit in queues for hours and get 3 runs if you're lucky. :idea:

Mmm will definatly take a look and have a chat with the team there see what it's like. It's close to Pete in Warwick at Nitrous Street Racing so maybe he can sort a nitrogen back fill Sunday, not sure why but even with heater this still seems to make the difference from fast to wicked FAST!!!!!!!!!!!

Saturday Street Wars sounds bid dodgy 2 me. Not into the ASDA carpark lads on Fosters Max Power Scene. U sure it's ok???

Your right York is tempting, Tis 2 hours each way but easy 90% motorway run and friendly enough to make test runs possible
