Here is the new family toy mum and dad get to cruise around in it and I can use it on the track as I cant use it on the road yet till I'm 25 due to insurance only 6 months to go lol

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2906031.htm

Need to give it a good clean and will take my own pics

It's got twin 40 dcoe webers on and I think a fast road can as it's got a lumpy idle and a high powerband just got to convince them to let me put a bottle on it lol

They'll soon get fed up with the lumpy idle and then you can point out that fitting a single downdraught carb will sort that out and adding a nitrous kit will give them much more power to enjoy, without the downsides of NA tuning, plus they'll get better fuel economy.

Your choice but I'd NEVER run multiple carbs, as even an expert would have trouble setting up a set and keeping them that way, especially if they're more than a year or two old.

i know they are not practical or fuel efficient at all its just something i always wanted and have always liked and with it only being a toy it seemed the ideal time to have them lol plus the sound is worth it on its own

i know im planning ahead but what would be the best way to do nitrous setup on twin 40s and this engine in general once i have a bottle heater on the bmw thats the nitrous finished on that so will start collecting bits for the westy

totaly unrelated did you get my email with the pictures

The advert reads as if the engine is basically standard, bar the carbs. A pair of 40's should set up nice and run well on that and if they're jetted right it's probably just the carb balance that's slightly out

Hi :)

I am with Trev on this, it took me a long time to learn to set up twin Webers and Dellortos including a trip to Weber at Sunbury, if you must keep them , my best advice is to try and find a "weber syncrometer" to balance the airflow, which will get you around 80% of the way to tuning them, the other 20% is down to jetting and there are 3 SETS of jets on each twin weber...you really need a gas analyser to set them properly, you could try and find an old Snap-On 12 volt single gas anaylser...they come up on Ebay occasionally...

If you get the set up on twins wrong, you will know as it will run extremely unevenly and you will have APPALLING FUEL CONSUMPTION (think under 10 to the gallon)

OR...takes Trevs excellent advice and change back to a single weber downddraft....plus Nitrous :)

All the best Brett :)

Next month it's going in the a carb specialist to have it properly setup as to be totally honest carbs are all new to me I've only ever had EFI cars before but I'm Gunna order some of the carb balancers the ones with 4 vacuum gauges so i can keep a check on them and I will be getting a wideband aem mainly for my BMW but will get an extra sensor bung welded in on the Westland where all the exhaust primarily meet

Ditch the pinto and fit an st170 engine with a set of cams, can run it on standard ford management and will be very reliable with loads of power on tap

thats the plan for next winter gunna come off the road this winter so i can do a load of work and tidy and paint bits then in the summer months its gunna get used and abused while collecting bits i was thinking of the 2.0l zetec with some gsxr throttle bodys and megasquirt managment with some fast road cams so i have a year for saving and collecting bits

we had a budget of 5.5k for this and the only ones we could get were pinto or crossflow 1700cc as we wanted the car to be in good nick so engine swaps could be done later down the line

ive also ordered some carb balancers to play with just got to look where to connect them to on the carbs

Ahhhh carbs, those were the days. I used to balance up my twin 40's with a piece of pipe to my ear. I got it checked once by a "specialist" to be told they were spot on. Our hearing can tell us many things.

If you want to tinker with the carbs yourself, i'd highly recommend the speedpro series book- 'How to build & power tune weber & Dellorto DCOE, DCO/SP & DHLA Carburettors'.

Very very good book and if you get a wide band, then with the book in hand and some common sense there's nothing to fear about sorting the carbs yourself

Hi Ian, just been chatting to the guy. They're Twin 40's, so talked him into using the tube to the ear like we used to do :)
