I will be returning to the strip for the first time since October '09.
Objectives are....
1. to get the car there in 1 piece under its own power.
2. to run some 1/4s with no major issues.
3. to beat my mates Jensen without gas. Hes runs 12.5 without.
4. to get the nitrous system tested on the new engine and see if a meagre 60 shot can get me in the 11's.

Anybody else on here visiting York on 28th/29th this month?
Come say hi if you do.

Thanks Richard.
To be honest I will be over the moon just to get 1 and 2 out of the way.
Anything else is a big bonus.

Hope all goes well Del !!!
I'll be partying on the 27th with the Blackett Photography team as Ian and Paula are having a house warming gig :)

I dont think the MGB will be back on track until next year. While I'm taking her off line to build and fit the new engine and DP system I've decided to freshen up the front and rear suspension and sort a few other niggles like suspension bushing etc. I've been ragging the crap out of the old girl or 6 years straight and its time she got a makeover. I've got custom head gaskets being made and new tyres on order. I'm even going to freshen up the brakes for gods sake :) The pads and shoes are hanging on by a thead right now. :omgrofl:

I've even got a wheelie bar setup to play with but I'm hoping I wont need to fit it if I can calm the front end down with new stuff + modified rebound stops ?? Basically replace the front rubbers with adjustable bolts ;)

Keep us posted mate.
regards
Pel

I know exactly what you mean.
It got to the point where I too just wanted to get there and then get home on all 8 cylinders :omgrofl:

So heres the plan.

On Saturday i go to pick the car up in Telford.
It will have Megasquirt installed and mapped running fuel and spark.
A switcheable map that will be triggered from the full throttle microwitch will have 4 degrees of retard.

I will drive normally 142 miles from Telford to York and give the car its first oil change there.

On Sunday i intend to find my feet so to speak and will be concentrating on finding grip rather than pushing the car to its limits. I guess 5000 rpm maximum will be ok on what are fresh crank bearings, only having done about 500 miles.

On Monday if all is going well, then i will try the good old fashioned nitrous system i started with. A 60 shot into the elbow into the plenum. I will run a slightly richer ratio than 2 years ago at first and do a plug check, then lean off after.

I am lookng forward to geting back on track and will try not to rush into things without taking the usual steps and precautions.

On Saturday I had the fresh engine mapped on megasquirt and was very happy with 308 bhp and a nice fat torque curve, but we ran late and i didnt make it to the pits at York until 11:15pm.
I was greeted by my best mate Tony and our regular neighbour in the pits Kasey who offered me BBQ chicken and beer as him and his family always do. So i had a few swift beers and into the tent ahead of the weekends racing.
Next morning we got our cars ready, scrutineered and signed on. I had my first practice run and was over the moon with a 12.77 @ 108 without gas breaking my 13.0 PB.

Then a little later the tragedy happened...
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/9220815 ... e_meeting/
I have never seen a major accident at a drag strip and hope i never do. I was a few cars back in the fire up lane in my car ready when i saw people reacting. It was a terribly shocking and sad day.

It was decided to call the day off obviously and later we had a race car procession followed by a silence then a minute of engines roaring.

The next day we tried to get back to 'normal' procedures but everyones thoughts were with Kasey and his family and friends.

I decided to run without nitrous and find my feet in what is a new car to me in a lot of respects. My times started with a 12.78 and were nibbled away to a final run of 12.41 in a round of Supercup when i was knocked out by an 8 second car.
I had fun and was over the moon with a time that beats any NA TVR Chimaera or Griffith that i know of.

I look forward to running the nitrous at the next event.

RIP Kasey mate.

Yes that was very sad but thankfully extremely unusual in our sport.

RIP

Bill

I was at York on the Monday, very sad news about Kasey and I honestly never thought that would happen. Was meant to go Sunday but the car wasn`t ready.

Didn`t know him personally but only heard good things about him over the years.
