On Saturday I had the fresh engine mapped on megasquirt and was very happy with 308 bhp and a nice fat torque curve, but we ran late and i didnt make it to the pits at York until 11:15pm.
I was greeted by my best mate Tony and our regular neighbour in the pits Kasey who offered me BBQ chicken and beer as him and his family always do. So i had a few swift beers and into the tent ahead of the weekends racing.
Next morning we got our cars ready, scrutineered and signed on. I had my first practice run and was over the moon with a 12.77 @ 108 without gas breaking my 13.0 PB.
Then a little later the tragedy happened...
http://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/9220815 ... e_meeting/I have never seen a major accident at a drag strip and hope i never do. I was a few cars back in the fire up lane in my car ready when i saw people reacting. It was a terribly shocking and sad day.
It was decided to call the day off obviously and later we had a race car procession followed by a silence then a minute of engines roaring.
The next day we tried to get back to 'normal' procedures but everyones thoughts were with Kasey and his family and friends.
I decided to run without nitrous and find my feet in what is a new car to me in a lot of respects. My times started with a 12.78 and were nibbled away to a final run of 12.41 in a round of Supercup when i was knocked out by an 8 second car.
I had fun and was over the moon with a time that beats any NA TVR Chimaera or Griffith that i know of.
I look forward to running the nitrous at the next event.
RIP Kasey mate.
