So after a disastrous day on the last RWYB with an oil leak from the turbo I made a mistake and let my brother borrow the Rapid for a week -

A panicked telephone call on friday night at 10:30 and this is the result

He was ok but he drove for several miles with flames out the back of the car!

The fire didnt spread into the car and was localised at the top of the engine bay. It would have gone out pretty much as soon as he turned off the ignition.

It appears he managed to arm the nitrous system and spray lpg around the engine bay as the bottle was switched off and the fogger unplugged.

So far the parts needing replacement are:

Nitrous lines and pulsoids
LPG feed to the nitrous side
New LPG kit
All new pipes (boot, gauges, fuel lines)
all the wiring at the top of the engine (ignition leads, temp senders, nitrous wiring)
New air intake (burnt black pipe)
and somehow - not going to be easy on a rapid - new throttle cable.

Woof and the engine bays gone !!

You been using that Cillit Bang Nitrous again ?? :beatstick:

It often looks like that after a dyno backfire Steve

If you are stuck for pulsoids in the short term I've got a few spare pairs.

Maybe its time to buy an extinguisher or two to carry in the car.....maybe your brother should pay for them....

All the best Brett :)

Yeah - hes ok - thankfully - he is a bit shaken so hopefully it will make him be more careful - 2 miles with flames coming out the back of the car is a bit stoopid! Follow that with pulling into a filling station............

I must admit I did ask how much of my car was left first but as he rang me from his mobile then he must have been ok.

one up for the Skoda firewalls though! All the fire stayed in the back!

So - My dad backed my road car into something big and brown. And Rob has set my car alight........

Last time Rob had my Rapid he spun it on a roundabout and damaged the suspension, wrote off a wheel and dented the front valence. (as well as Rob borrowed little Steve's bimmer 320 and wrote that off)

 Suggests that maybe I should NEVER lend anyone in my family a car! :beatstick:
