To be fair I think that the staff did about as much as they could. You have to remember it is no fun for them standing around either!

Sure perhaps they could have done things a little differently, but at the end of the day we were the ones crazy enough to visit a drag strip in the middle of winter!

Personally I prefer the track being closed for safety than sitting in a queue of several hundred cars for hours on end!

I agree with all the H&S aspects, but there was no rain and yet the track still didn't open until after 1pm.
Something went wrong with the track prep. I am no expert, but they are, and this should have been sorted.

video loading was delayed due to technical problems (we had no heating or hot water) so they'll be done in the next couple of hours

woohooo! cant wait for the vids.......but sort yourself out first!

With regards track prep, they may well be experts.....but they dont often have to deal with the conditions of Sunday. Although there was no rain, there was plepnty of moisture and I am sure the temp was pretty close to the dew point.

This year seems to be the first that there are so many January events, it cant be an easy task getting a damp track useable! This was the first time I have ever been and not seen any 'pro' outfits, I guess this is because they know the track wont be up to it

For the rest of us it is a good day out, and even if you dont run the banter and company makes it what it is. Sure it is frustrating when you pay your money and cant race, but I bet it is a hell of a lot more frustrating paying £1200 for jet fuel, paying 30+ staff for the day and ending up not turning a profit!

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss a return, at the end of the day the cost kind of pales in to insignificance against what we spend on our hobby

To be honest I thought Ian was going to call it off at 2.30pm when they stopped racing to do more drying.
We would have had 2 lanes open if that numpty hadnt run on the fresh prep and dropped antifreeze all down the left lane as soon as it opened.

I thought Austin was going to get pushed back after waiting all that time and then to the burnout area when the beetle dropped oil all over the first 200 feet. I notice he loaded up and left straight away after that happened :D

Still!
At least most of us got some track time in to iron out niggles left over from last year eh?
Jason has just fitted a new shaft one side and we will do the other tomorrow so she is ready again :D :D

Heating and Hot water restored

Here's the vid's.
The filming and sound will be better next time as I have just found out there is a "Wind Cut" feature
Enjoy, oh yes and watch for Perry's flaming exhaust

Thanks for that Rich!
Looks like its rich on activation??
She certainly laid the power down. But maybe a bit too much at once.. I only added 5% more than usual. It felt good for 2 seconds anyway :)

Hopefully i'll get it right next Sunday??

As suspected the pinion nut was not tight enough on the diff. The nut took a fair amount of torque just to turn, but it went on about 3 more turns!

:loser:

Oh well, all sorted now! Need to sort the leak on the back carb and I am ready again!

Also extended the ramps on the trailer by about 85cm so it should be a lot easier getting the bugger on and off!

To do the pinion nut correctly (compressing the collapsible spacer between the bearings) it should be done measuring the turning force, but near enough (in a drag only car where the diff doesn't have to be whisper quiet) is just to keeping nipping the nut up until there's no play in the prop flange up/down or in/out  .....don't tighten it any further or the pinion bearings can get munched :tard:
