I spent 2 hours with Roy Wilding today while collecting a slingshot chassis that he built for a mate...
I may well be rolling out for 2012 with a GM 4/71 blower setup + nitrous??

Thats all I will say for now? But I am certainly thinking blower as opposed to turbo for my car now ?? If I can make about 350hp on a blower and then add nitrous I'll be quids in I reckon :)

Pel turbos are much more efficient & will be quicker IMO.

A few bits from the mighty ebay, a bit of welding, a blow through carb & some t28's would be a good set up I reckon.

Agree with Bill as to which is best between turbo and blower but as I've never seen a Rover with a blower or a turbo run anywhere near as quick as nitrous only and as ALL the blown Rovers that have ever been raced (that I'm aware of), have ALL had reliability problems, I'd personally stick with what you have, rather than over complicate the job by adding either a blower or a turbo.
Your money would be better spent on increasing the capacity with some forged pistons and you'd very quickly be running the target numbers, rather than spending a year or more in down time and/or sorting new combo issues.

This is a bit of a back handed idea as I have another 4.6 to build you see ??

Always wanted the look of a 4/71 blower sticking out the bonnet :)

So I'll probably build my fresh engine for nitrous and use my old engine for a blower trial..

The setup I looked at yesterday will bolt stright on top of my WON plate system :D :D

How the hell are you going to see the start lights (or anything else), with a blower obscuring such a small windscreen????

Turbo's are good but the blower look is a must. When I first built the Cortina I had it set up with a 460 BBF with a Tunnel Ram with a 1271 blower and 2 x dominators with a plate kit and topped off with a bug catcher. It looks the bollox. Go for it mate

So I guess I should start gathering advice re power sapping on a GM setup??

Firstly. Engine specs..

Rover 4.6 / 280 ci engine..

Do I size the blower based on pumping capacity / VE of the engine???

What is the difference between a 4/71 and a 6/71 blower??

Its Supercharger 101 for me from this day forward. Hopefully Ron can help with some historical advice from his early days ??

Perry

Hey Perry, The numbers 4/71 are; 4 cylinders @ 71 cubic inches = 284ci. But I don't know if that means that would suit your engine perfect or it can only supply 284ci of air? I'd go with the 6/71 if your research shows that it will work. If I had my time again I would of put a bigger blower on, and I will be next year. "Spend good money once".

Either that or make his bonnet look like mickey mouse -
Twin turbos sticking up one each side!

Having fun with my e45 blower on the 1.3 -
The BMW mini that had it they say has a 140mm crank and a 65.5 mm blower giving a 2.14 increase on the mini.

On a 114 crank to a 65.5 blower I am struggling as it is blowing TOO much air!

So I am going for a 75mm pulley on the blower and see how much difference this makes.

Just like Pel - its ALL new.

Good fun init! :beatstick: :omgrofl:

Thanks for the info Paul :)

My engine is a V8 / 280 ci motor but I have been advised by the blower man that a 4/71 will be fine. I will now ask another question based on your comments on the option of increased output.

Thanks
Perry
