Saturday is RWYB and Sunday is the Ultimate BMW Show.
I'll be there on both days.

Ordered extra jets today, so I'll be winding the 840 upto a theoretical 550hp at the weekend.
Is there a smiley for NERVOUS :omgrofl:

On Saturday, you'll find us "Oldies" near the toilet block
my race number is CC806, but more than likely the ONLY 8 series on the saturday.
Sunday there might be 4 (average turn out) :omgrofl:

Can't split myself in 2 (much as I'd like to) but I 'may' be at Shakey Saturday or Sunday (not sure which but unlikely to be both) this weekend.

Best of luck to everyone at the Pod.

Just trimmed a few more settings in the Max Extreme to try and reduce that launch delay.
Pel, you'll have to sit with me to see if it works.
I might need you to read the display on launch

No probs Rich!
Just dont expect a good time with an extra 17 stone in the car :)

I've just got the car on the trailer ready for initial fire up in the pits tomorrow with the PPC mag crew at the POD..

Luckily my Son Jason has pulled out all the stops this week to get the car rebuilt. Daddy put his back out big style so I couldnt do a lot to be honest. I'm having to sit bolt upright on my chair to type this so my back doesnt start playing up.
I'll be hanging with Skoda Steve and his home boys + a big gang of other guys for the magazine day event on Friday.

On Saturday I'm gunning for a sub 10.6 in the MGB....

I will be along to see you guys tomorrow morning with video camera but without my mates Jensen.... not ready in time.
I have my nitrous spares with me if anyone needs to try a different jet size or needs an olive or something.
Be good to finally put some faces to names.

It was a simialr story for me Dave!

Heres a quick report from today:)

1st launch saw the diff explode and one shaft twisted at 11am. We took the diff out and I went home and built another one and got more shafts. Had it driving again just after 3pm. Got on the line with gentle settings (50% start with 1.6 second build) and only 150 shot to see how these copper gaskets would hold out over the repair I did to the block. And also to see how the retarded cam timing feels. She launched fine and it was odd to be shifting gears 1000 rpm above my normal shift point of 4600 rpm. But thats where she seems to be making power now.
She ran grumble free apart form one small sort of blip in the acceleration as I was about to shift from 2 to 3. This only lasted a split second. Then in 3rd the power seemed to drain away, although she was sounding really crisp and revving ok.
My son said it looked rich off the line and then cleaned up but started to smoke out the drivers side pipe in 3rd gear. As I turned out of the gate I gave Angie a wave and then I saw plumes of what I thought was smoke from the sidepipe under my door.
I guessed it would be rings etc. But a quick inspection in the pits confirmed it was steam and the cooling system was pressurising. So not a bad result really. She only made 11.4 but the mph was 120 which is only 6 mph off my pb and nearly a second slower. 60 foot was 1.8 as opposed to my normal 1.5's. So I've come home a bit broken but quite happy that I'm getting this engine back on song.

What car were you running Sharpy Dave ??

Derek (DBV8) came over to say hello as well. Great to meet you today mate. You did what I have been telling my other forum mates to do for ages. Get a T shirt or sweatshirt done with your forum name on the front. You made a long trip to come and say hello mate. Respect

Richard (BMW840) turned up with his (Better Half) Vivienne as well. Despite his BMW V8 protesting he still brought his other Bimmer V12 and let Viv rag on the 1320 :) Hopefully the weather will hold out tomorrow so the Bimmer Boys can get some runs in?

Stu Simons turned up with the 1275 MG Midget + WON and got some more tuning questions answered. The Mighty Midge pulled a 16.8 @ 81mph with a 20hp shot of WON on the go  That pisses all over the MGB 1800 Stage 2 guys who we have run against at the Retro Shows in years gone by :) Most of them just barley creep into the mid 17's....Well done Stuart ! When we get a bit more fuel into the system I reckon we will be seeing low 16's next year mate.

I suppose I should make a brief mention of old Golden Bollocks as well ???

Our very own Austin ran his old Truck to a new PB today.. He pulled an 11.7 in the Lightning truck... Big respect Austin. She was running and sounding really sweet as she crossed the line. But I really think you need to stop being a sissy and get some more gas in there mate  If that truck does not run an 11.5 next year I'll be surprised...

All in all a great day out. Even those of us who did not PB still had a good time and gained more valuable info. My son is becoming a dab hand at changing head gaskets and stripping and rebuilding the rear axle on my MGB while I gas with my WON buddies now :)

I'll be ready to test more experimental gaskets in a few weeks. Mainly because work and holidays are now going to get in the way of me finishing this season with a new PB due to lack of track time :(

Peace and love fellow WON folk.

Perry

Thanks for the great report Perry but sorry to hear you're still having problems, so is it the copper gaskets that caused the water leak, did you use any silicone on them?

Yep!
I used some sealant. But i think I may have a warped head as the pressure leaked from no8 cylinder into the waterway port. There is only around 8mm of gakset between these points.
I'll be back out in a month to try again. As soon as I know these gaskets will hold out I'll go back up to 200 and 250 of gas to see if I can beat my 10.6 PB.. :D

Thanks for the mention, Pel!
It's good to come away with some idea of what's happening, why it's happening & how to move forward.
Running the 20 shot certainly made the little 1275 come alive.
Must say that no matter how I tried, I couldn't get any further clutch slip after the earlier afternoon runs so I wonder if even I might have had some slight traction issues??? I think the spare diff will be locked over the winter - if we can strip your axle in 20mins, I can do a complete diff swap on mine in 30!

Thanks to Austin & Rich for their input too. Much appreciated guys :P

Pel, Sharpy Dave's running a thoroughly modern Mini (provided he can get it back to base)

Sorry I didnt make it guys - my back was really bad - I'm still laid in bed as its that or stand up, I cant sit down at the mo - its nerves. think I did it when the rapid got the good launch - need to get it to the end of the 1/4 feeling like that now. May need to switch to 11lb bottles...

glad you had a good day and hope rich goes well today......

Saturday was most enjoyable, just to socialise if not much else.

I swear the 840 has Artificial Intelligence
On Thursday I was going through the final settings in the Extreme from advice given by Trev and Ant was on the phone in support too. On Thursday night, the engine WAS running. Friday morning cleaned interior, exterior and engine bay, loaded up with our weekend bags, at which point for some bizarre reason I mumbled "I bet you don't start" AND IT DIDN'T

Diagnostics gave no error code and said NO ENGINE RPM, so its 99% going to be the crank sensor.
BMW had nothing local and there was one in the West Country somewhere, but I made the decision to go in the back-up 850. Several of us had a big laugh today as we decided that “Don’t tell the 840 its going to the Pod” would be the strategy for the future. I’ll just say its going to the car wash

As Pel and Austin said, we came this far, so Vivienne ran the box standard 850. 1st run was 16.6 @ 87 and her 5th and last run was 15.7 at 89. We shaved 2/10’s off just by removing the paper air filters.

Sunday was Bimmers only, and when we left early in the afternoon a Supercharged V8 M3 was leading the C Class with 12.7 @ 117. I don’t feel so bad as this guy came from the same team that does my mapping.

I would also like to say it was great to put more faces to names.
Good luck with the new clutch Dave and can't wait to see the TRV Derek.
