The kick down switch is ONLY for on the move and makes the engine rev longer in the gears (when in auto).

I very much that is the case.

Auto boxes are generally very complex devices and even the good old non-electric basic versions use the kick down switch in a more complex manner.

Normally when the kick down 'control' is activated the box acts in a more 'positive' manner than when deactivated, because its used to indicate if the driver wants hard or gentle acceleration.

I'd be very surprised if the lack of the kick down switch being activated isn't adversely affecting your acceleration.

BTW Richard the TABLE that was beating you was also using my nitrous system, so you shouldn't have felt too bad about it. :omgrofl: :omgrofl:

Just a thought, but is your BMW 'fly by wire'? In my case I have a throttle cable, but the Face Lift (post 99) cars are all fly by wire and there is definite throttle lag with them and I always beat the FL cars in the 1st 60ft. Passed that their 2 stage variable inlet manifolds, variable cam timing and higher torque curve lower in the rev range beats me to the line every time off the gas. On the gas though!!!! :D

Further more my launches on the gas while a 'bit' more brutal are contained by the ECU and TCU software stopping me transmitting to much torque through the transmission. This isn't traction control; my quattro S8 would snap a half shaft before the oversize tyres I run let go. It's more a self preservation setting. It can be coded out by a TCU remap............ Once I can afford to replace the components that will fail.

I feel so much better now

Perhaps I should explain to those reading this.
My best time was 13.9, but a dining table ran 13.6 - oh the shame
