is downright pathetic. As I write this the first round of the streetlegal drags in Drachten, Holland is about to start and I`m sitting home in frustration. My bottle is empty.
My usual supplier`s pump broke, he couldn`t get it repaired in time, so I hung on the phone for the rest of the week trying to find another nitrous supplier and fill my bottle. Called all kind of suppliers for welding gasses, industrial and medical gasses, etc.

It turned out I need some sort of permit or licence, or I was being told plainly that they didn`t sell to individuals because of alledged misabuse of the stuff as a partydrug.
Now I know I`m from the land of drugs smoking pornographists, but come on, did more than 20 phone calls and no one was willing to help me out. I could talk untill my teeth fell out but they simply stated they had to adhere to government regulations.
As a last resort I drove to a few local companies and showed them my bottle to no succes. They don`t want to risk getting into trouble.

The only solution I see is trying to get a permit or licence to stuff nitrous in a bottle at home. I`m thinking of buying a secondhand large gas bottle and have it filled by a nitrous supplier.

This whole affair has cooled my enthusiasm for nitrous considerably. Need to get my motivation back and solve this problem. I don`t want to experience this anymore.
Goes to show once more in what kind of police state we live today, your personal life is severly governed by bureaucratic powers and their political correctness, telling you what you should and shouldn`t do.
Might as well emigrate to England, perhaps Trevor can adopt me. Free nitrous lol.

(End of rant)

Paul

If your usual filler has a full big bottle (and not just run out) then you could transfer the 'old fashioned' way - cool your bottle, heat his big one and transfer like that?

I know a pump is easier and quicker but you could get something in?

Obviously your filler has to be willing though

Sorry to hear about the 'permit' required - not good! Here In England some of the potential nitrous suppliers wont sell to you as apparently we ALL sit around breathing the stuff!

The only people who breathe the stuff have an IQ lower than my car! When will the suppliers and guvermints work it out?

I tried to explain tot the apes that were hanging around there how you could gravity feed the bottle the "old fashioned way" but apparently their skulls were too thick to comprehend. After 30 minutes of talking I gave up.

Oh, and I did some investigations about getting a permanent nitrous storage permit.
I officially need to ask the department of healtcare and if everything goes well I might expect the document in two years after being tortured by half a dozen civil services for certification. Might as well be dead at the time.

I tried to contact forummember aldert Tjoelker per email yesterday.
He is one of the professional dragracers with his super streetbike on nos and sels the stuff. He even has a filling station.
Unfortunately he didn`t respond to my email. Motograndprix this weekend at the nearby TT circuit in Assen. He might be too occupied with beer, lots of noise and sleezy tarts.

Thanks for the link rich, but I already looked at that. They only cater for the domestic market unfortunately.

However, I might have found an adress, although it might not be euh... totally legal.
Going to check it out next week.
Time is on my side now. Almost a month untill the next streetlegal dragrace.

Sorry to hear that Paul.

The first thing I would suggest is that you DON'T mention its for car use or any medical use.

Tell anyone who asks what its for that it's some very important experimental use that you will be applying for a patent on the end result, so you can't disclose what it is. If they persist you can say something like "all I can tell you is that it could be very good for Holland and you'd be happy to give them a name check when TV news programs come to report on it once you have your patent" ;)

I've been transferring nitrous between bottles by using a freezer and a hot water tank.

Using just a freezer:

What I do, is freeze the bottle that the nitrous is going in. (-20 deg C) Then open the valves on both bottles and allow the pressure to equalize. I then put the "filled" bottle back in the freezer for 3-4 hrs, and do it again. You actually have to be careful with this, as you can over -fill a bottle pretty easily.....

You don't need a pump to transfer out of a mother bottle.

Thanks for your advice Trevor, but I think I have found an adress where I can have my bottle filled. But it`s in Assen, and currently the place is congested with racefans because of the motorgrandprix. I don`t fancy drunken motorcyclists dancing on the roof of my car so I better wait till after the weekend.

Hi Paul, and have a back-up plan for the future.
I now have the choice of two, as I had the same problem a while back, the time i needed the stuff no one was available

Hi Paul,

i sure in Drachten are some racer with N2O and some also have big bottle and pump and sell at the race track.
That should be no problem at some big events!
