Hi all
Where should I begin  best i suppose to introduce myself Steve is the name and I've known Trev for 20 or more (denial of anything over that) years, I think we first met in the mid 80's when we were both competing in the Rover V8 Championship and I seem to remember it being at york race way from that 1st meeting Trev and I became good friends and have been ever since (even though i dropped out of the racing scene for a while)
So you ask yourself whats this thread about, well i posted to the USA Visit thread and Trev asked me if I would care to relate some of the strories of Drag Racing, Nitrous Oxide, Alcohol (the type he consumed not burnt) yes to a lot of peoples suprise Langy's not adverse to a shot or 2, in the early days when he raced it was always full on and take no prisoners (his alcohol consumption has been likened to his Escorts consumption of Nitrous in many stages and vast)

as you'll see from the pic (taken at Avon Park) he used to like running with the front removed from the car which didnt seem to be a problem at the Park but at York it was a different mater.
I think He had drawn Steve Green or Kev (Kj) Jenkins and was in the bleach box buning out (used to take 5 mins on its own) prior to staging when the marshals told us to shut him down as he couldnt run with the front off. The only thing i've seen launch harder than his Escort was Trev himself as he heard why he was stopped, i think a track record was broken that day 8) he managed to exit the car, remove his helmet, cross the pairing lanes, hurdle the barriers and be giving the clerk of the course abuse in his office (shack) before anyone could catch him.
so there you have the fist of the stories i'll post with regards to our Trevor
(care to comment Trev  )

Well I'd be lying if I tried to deny a work of that Steve.

That clerk of the course was lucky he got me on a GOOD day.

He had no way of justifying that decision when there were open engined Dragsters being allowed to run. :x

Do you remember how I stormed over to the pits and carried the full front over my head all the way to the pairing lanes and shouted in his face "Here's the bloody front end and it's fitted on my bloody car, so your stupid rules can't stop me running now" then I jumped in and posted a new PB, because I nailed the accelerator so hard.

Bloody wanker - how do such fools end up in charge of the world!?!?!?!?

Hi guys im glad this thread looks like causing some interest

To add the bits that trev left out of his reply and yes Trev i do remember you brandishing the front end like a club, to elaborate the C.O.C (a good abreviation for clerk of the course  ) was when i caught up to you (always in front on n off the track) cowering behind his desk at the sight of an extremley pissed of yorkshireman waving a bonnet and screaming abuse (the only thing i've seen Trev not achieve) was getting the front end of the escort through the office door it was the only reason i caught up to him and managed to stop him getting thrown off the track

i'll rack the brain see what pics i can find and post some more Tales of the Unexpected soon best regards all
Steve

Ah now the ps to this is about letting trev test drive your ride, reading his reply reminded me of this, yup he ran a pb and bent the throtle linkage and floor pan in the escort (throtle foot only knows 3 settings ) walk run n stamp and will probably lead to stories of numbing juice ;)

On Track Antics
ok in response to Rapidblue & Culasse's request heres an on (sort of ) track story
this time we'll start with a picture
( Not quite a what happened next momment) more of a whats this got to do with Langy moment

The Guy driving this (again back in the 80's) was a record holder and as you can see expert stunt driver.
This was just prior to him putting in a timed (record attempt) on 2 wheels (not the rear ones ) over the 1/4
So whats this to do with Trev obvious realy init its got a kit on hasn't it
well yes but heres the kicker if i remember corectly (if i dont Trev will tell us) it was one of his motor bike manual systems (yup manual) meaning hand operated, almost enough for a story
Na
The guy was not prepared to fire up the system whist concentrating on keeping it on 2 wheels so (our hero  ) sat in the car amongst the roll cage n manualy fired the system while they set a new 1/4 mile record on 2 wheels

This was not the first and was not to be the last time Trev sat in and operated a system for someone

Hovercraft springs imeadiately to mind  so this poor fella approaches Trev to enquire about a system for a single seat racing hovercraft
Trev tells this story (with sound effects) better than i but still.
once again our hero :clown: is perched on the machine with the driver and i think the story goes like this Trev tells the fella you signal when your at wot and i'll hit the gas that bit works fine but when the guy signals to shut it down does Trev ? no of course not
Trev knows in the escort or a grass tracker they can keep the gas on longer then shut down and make the turn before the hedges get too close
well it turns out that hover craft dont turn like cars they kinda drift in a looping arc, straight through the hedge much to the dismay of the driver

Did he buy the kit Trev ?

more soon

Steve

Hi Steve,

Close but then you are getting old now my boy. ;)

It was the Hovercraft only with the cable bike system and I hadn't got a cable long enough, so the guy persuaded me to squeeze on it behind him (single seater job), in the middle of winter, a foot of snow and the ground and when he tiold me to shut off after the test blast (which was great), I delayed doing so as I was enjoying it and he threw me out of the thing when he did an emergency stop. If you look up how they stop those things, you see why.

The 2 wheel car jobbie was my choice just for the experience.
It got a bit interesting as we passed the embankment and were hit by a strong side wind.

What about details of the doughnut incidents and the racing and the evenings in Stratford and I'm sure Perry would be interested in your experiences with that bloody carb you bought instead of a Holley.

Got to go now, I think the guys are ready to roll now.

mmm Donuts Carbs and Booze
sounds like a cookery show or something but much more fun.
So i guess we had better start with donuts  (always eat first !)
The picture at the begining of this set of tales is of our Hero (hehe) Mr Langfied in his Escort in one of its many guises (it had afew some a little stranger than others )if memory (ta Trev) serves correctly in these pics it was with ladder bars and a live jag axle (not irs)
that later found its way under the Capri we campaigned at the time (carb story should go here but i'll come back to that) this was again at Long Marston (shakey) as those not as far over the hill as he and I know it, we used to get away with a bit more in those days as you can see
i for the life of me cant remember the reason behind this (could have been an oil down or some such) Trev decided that we should entertain the spectators with a display by the (Langfield School of Motoring) Trev and myself doing simultaneous counter rotating donuts
as usual not everything in the world of Trev n Steve goes to plan, we take the cars to the pairing lanes set them up and away we go
simple Na of course not,
for a change everything works fine for the Master of Disaster (an old bike days nick name given to Trev by his Brother i believe)
its my turn to cock up, my donuts turned into thrupenny bits and a staic burnout (someone forgot to turn the gas on)
Langy on the other hand perfoms to his usual 120% and puts down some of the best nitrous donuts i've ever seen (including bursting both back tyres)

pics 008.jpg

Now i happen to know that Trev used to have this on video (was also used in the States i believe) so if we all ask nicely and he still has it he may post it here or on utube when he gets home
what you reckon Trev
Oh and Escort guises
a Trev special  the exhaust exiting through the bonnet skywards 4 into 1 headers pointing upwards so he could watch the effect of the nitruos during a run
(thats dedication for ya)
back soon with a story of not listening and capri carbs !

I love my upward manifolds.

I could have sworn I had that video clip on my web site but I've checked and it isn't so I'd better get that sorted.
