What Tezz says makes a lot of sense, with so many changes, softly softy is the order of the day.
I will def hold back on my 200's now, as the 20th is still gonna be a test of the 150's, but in auto shift mode upto the red line 9which will also be a first in this set-up). Only if I am truly satisfied on the saturday will I even consider trying the 200's the next day.

You have definity made me think twice.

Ouch, that's not good :?

Surprised your still running regular composite head gaskets though, aren't the older rover v8 tin ones stronger (appart from upping the Cr a bit, they still fit on the 10 bolt heads). Gasket goes = lean = melted.

Since when have you known me to take the "softly softly" approach Rich?

What about? Wearing the mini skirt and thigh boots

Shit or bust mate.....It was only another 60hp of gas. But it was from a Spider plate and not my quad crossfire plate. I know I should have dropped back to a 225 shot but I was in the zone in my head and wanted to see what would happen with the 300 jets in. So I now know that the engine may not take a 300 shot with a Spider eh?

Shit happens!!
I'll get it lashed back together for the fast show and drop back to a 150 shot to see if it holds together :)

If it dont then I'm scrapping the MGB and building my next project MG for 2011.

I know what you mean Pel, but what has just happened to you, should be a warning call to me.
Even Ant was trying to talk me out of getting the 200's, but I'm still itching to get the most out of the system.
I'll have the 200's with me, but lets see what happens on the weekend.
It would be nice to come away with another PB and still drive home on all 8

Whoops! tough break Pel,unlucky dude

more offerings to the gods of speed.
Could be plenty of reasons for the damage, but Tezz is spot on.You should have gone back down to some lower settings.

The spider should be loads more efficient than the old setup,so you'd get more for less anyway.

And what the FOOK are you doing trying to run at this time of year-this weather- on slippy tracks!!!! FFS you're a potential 9second car,you had to fight the kin track last year,it ain't going to stick any better now.

plus haven't you lost your slicks? melted em or summat?

shandy drinking southern numpty.... S**t appens...... then ya die!

I know I know! I wasnt expecting such an extra kick from a small increase on the spider.

Viv just did a test run with a 150 shot on the "Hogs Back" (thats our test track) with me as passenger.
That served two purposes,
a) I was able to check the settings and concentrate on the engines reaction.
b) Viv now has a taster of what to expect at the Pod

The 200 jets arrived in the post today.
Tomorrow both bottles will be filled.

Sounds good to me Rich :)

I've decided to use "JB Weld Marine" chemical metal to lash up my block and head.

I'm just hoping I can buy a pair of copper head gaskets as well before the fast show. And find out why my sparks have died off. Hoping its just a duff coil or the new dissy cap or rotor arm are faulty. If I cant get a good spark Moo is going to lend me his Mallory Nitrous ignition system to try out in case I want to buy it :)

I like the idea of "try before you buy" :D :D

If I cant afford / obtain the copper gaskets before the fast show I'll stick a set of comp gaskets on and be real gentle with her in front of the camera's :)

If I cant get a good ET, I'll pull the slapper bars off and do some showboating with wheels in the air off the line to please the crowd 8)

The media whore will be on telly if possible.

Will someone bring a dustpan and brush to help me pick the engine up off the track if it goes tits up

Do you want a sneaky head gasket trick???

It was suggested to me way back when I had a fetish for single cylinder "thumpers".Could never get heads to seal with only 4 very long studs to hold it all down.Bad enough standard, hopeless if you increased the cr.

The answer my friend is...in a can!

High temp aluminium paint, spray both sides of the gasket with multiple coats.Overcoating a little quicker than you really should...as soon as previous has filmed over.Fit gaskets when dry but soft enough to imprint with a finger nail.

The more uneven the deck the more coats.

When you torque the head down excess will be squeezed out.

I've used this on used gaskets and never had a failure, including the beemer on nitrous, broke pistons but no head gaskets :beatstick:

Now that is a handy tip! Nige!

Might help the issue mine has with eating head gaskets when you dont put the right anti-ffreeze in (or any antifreeze at all)

The repair plan is now in place guys!!

I have a tube of JB Weld, a tin of ally exhaust paint and a pair of stock composite RV8 gaskets...

God help me

Sorry to hijack the thread Rich...
Lets get back on track shall we??

I'll be at the Fast Show with the MGB. I'll have a pit crew of 3. All the pit crew will have a brand new dust pan and brush. And they will be on the start line ready to go and sweep up any bits that come out the side of the block

And I'll be wearing Viv's spare mini skirt and fishnet stockings as this seems to be Richards new pit crew uniform :bounce:

I'm going to this (on Sunday)!

Really want to run, but have to get my car sorted in time. Car runs in "limp mode" occasionally when I accelerate hard! :? - Not going to make a very good 1/4 time with that...
