Not a good time for nitrous unless you have ice spikes and a BIG bottle heater - got up this morning and it was a bit

So went from this

to this

duz drone a bit when the tarmac aint icy and snowy - but makes it easy to spot when its slippy - tires are quiet!

Also car sits an inch higher than normal - thinking of this as a next petrol driven project

I was so glad of Viv's L200 this morning.
I was able to carve the first tracks through the snow - WITH EASE.
Beamer is on ice

Hi :)

In Bournemouth we never got a single flake of snow (my kids hated that) lol

I didn't mind though as my Porsche is on 18 x 10 rears and even with an LSD its terrible to drive in snow :(

All the best Brett :)

Mind you Brett, I did think of your new auto start today, when I saw the state of my beamer.
I couldn't even get the doors open, as the pillarless windows are frozen, so daren't force them.

Ah.....looks like early summer in Canada.

I miss the days when it was that warm...you don't need to keep the block heater on the tractor w/snow blower plugged in.

Dont forget that those few flakes STOP the UK - no one knows how to cope with it! As its the norm in Canada - you know what to do!

And it seem to stop the euro star like B-Rail! :beatstick:

And 4x4 just means you have 4x4 ways to get into trouble! They may move but they dont stop or steer any better than a rwd or fwd!

17:45 and its -3 in huntingdon - we got all the way to +1 (26 and 34 for non metric) Not as cold as some but this is only December - looks like we are on for a UK White chrismas :wav: :occasion7: :occasion9:

I had to leave for work at 4am yesterday. I set my alarm to get up and check for snow. We had about 3" so off I went to miss the inevitable crashes and jams.

Same again this morning. But no extra snow at 4am. Just lots of ice and -6C outside. So I went back to bed until 7am and left then.

I just went to the garage to start some work ona rear axle. Felt how cold it was and thought "bugger this for a game of soldiers". I could not even be bothered to even fire up the gas blower. Now safely tucked up at my workstation with a beer while Gill makes a nice chunky Beef Stew and I browse forums for some chat.

If we still have snow tomorrow I may just grab the sleds and my ski's and go for some fun in the nearby hills :)

Why not eh?
My recent spends on the nitrous stuff means I wont go skiing in January anyway :(

It's 10.05pm now. Better get your hot water bottles and Horlicks done now so you can get to bed. In fact. What are you two old farts doing up at this time?? :beatstick:

I'm just popping out for some naked snow wrestling with my mates before I come back in for a cold shower and a supper of nettle leaves 8)

ah these modern poofy cars - not able to take the cold.

Tried the Rapid today - not been started in 2 months and got a hole in its carb - and she still fired up! - took 2 tries poor girl but she has been parked out in this and just ignored.

Doors opened ok - maybe Rich you should just get one of those cheep halfrauds nylon covers - keeps the worst off the car and it packs in a small bag (attached to the cover) to take with you.

The Micra is mothers motor - wondering if the cvt box would take a 50 shot, no gear change, gets off the lights quite quick, could be a 14 second micra?

Is this a bad thread to mention that our racing season lasts 365 days?

It takes 160bhp to get micra into the 14's and with 57bhp as standard you'd need more like a 100 shot. The autos had stronger engines so could take the power, however the clutch is only good for 90 odd horses

I did see some of the 1/4 times posted over on the micra site

but I'm sorry - no way is a car getting 9.999@87 mph the posted 1/4 times are UNBELIEVABLE! It takes 98mph to get a 14 second in the Rapid and that only runs 50 shot! Just thinking if I can get a 14 out of the rapid using gears and only 50 of N2O then SURELY we could encourage a micra to get there - the Rapid only pulled 78 bhp on the dyno when we could get it to run long enough without going pop. (and Stuart is in the 16's with a midget!)

Yeah unfortunately some micra owners are a bit optimistic on their times. The micra is light (500kg) but not very aerodynamic. You could probably break into the high 15's with a 50 shot but the NCVT box wasn't really known for it's sporty pullaway. The manual gearboxes aren't much better, I ruined both of mine.

Took advantage of todays minor thaw, cleared remaining ice/snow from beamer and covered it over.
Dare not back car out onto road until all the now compacted ice has gone, so until then its tucked up in bed

I've always wondered why the CVT's have never progressed and become mainstream and can only assume it's a strength/traction issue so haven't delved deeper. Would you happen to know for sure where the weakness in this design lies and even better, why it can't be overcome?

I dont know about the nissan specific ones but the few motorbike CVT boxes I've come across have weak drive belts. If you could improve that then the rest of the box is plenty strong enough.

The NCVT uses a powder clutch, this might be another weak point.

??? 9.999@87 mph ???

I can see this happening quite easily in lots of cases on the strip with powerful cars. But a Micra

Who reckons they have done this?? Wheres the link??
