Couldn't believe it.

Car was a Microcar Virgo 505cc petrol with a massive 15 bhp, I'm 19 living in the RG20 postcode, clean licence, modification was 'nitrous oxide kit' TPTF cover

And the quote came back as £9499.05 almost 10 grand!!!!

But for fully comp it was £2490

What is up with insurance companies?

They are a law unto themselves.

I'm still gunna nitrous a microcar, aluminium chassis and polycarbonate body panels it's just asking for more power. The 2-pot engine should be easy to setup for direct port too

Have you tried Adrian Flux, because they should give you a SENSIBLE quotation if you mention it's one of our systems.

I just wish I had the time to get our Smart cars finished, because it's such a waste having them sat here in bits, when they could be blowing the rest of the car world away.

Yeah i'll have a proper look after the car and kit have been bought. Some light tuning (manifold, ITB's etc) should see a slightly higher base horsepower, then a 25bhp shot will double it

It'd be more like that bond bug than anything, light, small and shockingly fast

Nice idea but when you're pushing the limits and going where nobody else has gone (as we are doing with the Smarts), it requires more knowledge and experience, than even the majority of highly skilled race mechanics have, so it's not an option if we want to get the results we're aiming for.

Who gave you that quote?

Sureterm direct for the big quote, RAC for the smaller one. Insurance for a standard one TPFT is still looking like £1400

The reason I asked was that I can only get Adrian Flux to give quotes for N2O.

Yeah well RAC would only give a fully comp quote. I know sky insurance will do nitrous too

I insure the MR2 with Flux without nos on a classic policy.
Flux will insure anything. But you need to make sure you are speaking to the right person.

Sky Insurance DO NOT insure NOS, who told you they did?

Santa Pod insurance will cover nos, but thats only because their actually Adrian Flux on different phone number
Fluxys can give good quotes but it does depend on who you speak to
Ive got my capri insured with them for £340 with a 50shot of nos
The MR2 is only costing £180 on classic insurance with them, i asked how much it would be if i installed a 40shot and it went upto over £600!
When i asked why the whole difference between policys and was there any room to move on the price all i got was
"different policys insure at different rates, and if you can come back with another quote from another company for the nos install we`ll beat it"
Very helpful as they know their the only people who will insure nos

When I was insured with them I said I had a few mods planned, I gave the list (including nitrous) and they said I had to call them as I did the mods. They didn't say I couldn't insure nitrous at the time.

Never mind, I wouldn't go with them again anyway

You could have done the mod, then NOT been insured - BASTARDS
