Its been sitting in my garage for 2 years, after an extensive rebuild. NowI have decided its time to bring life to the beast!

These are a couple of videos of the first time this engine has fired for a long long time!

You may laugh, but it is supposed to have 2 Carter 600cfm carbs on. It only has one on at the moment and the rear is blanked off with a metal plate and a paint tin ;)

The carb that is on is buggered and needs a full rebuild (its been sat for many years) so to get it firing at all was an acheivement in my book! I did consider just using the direct port nozzles to introduce the fuel - but thought better of it!

All I need now is a car to put it in

In that case it sounds like a step in the right direction. ;)

Talking of running engines without carbs, one of my early episodes did just that (accidently). It was late and dark and for some reason the carbs on the 2 stroke twin we were working on didn't get secured to the engine they were just dangling in the right area.

Miraculously (without appreciating it at the time), it started and I then carried out a static test all without any problem. It was only afterwards that I realised the carbs had not been able to work very well.

Good luck with the project.

Regards

Well its a 7.2 litre Big Block Oldsmobile lump that I bought about 10 years ago in a load of breadcrates! It was rebuilt at great expense 2 years ago by my own bare hands and I am hoping to squeeze 1000BHP from it eventually!

Still having some trouble with the idle circuit in my Carter AFB, but a spray can lid and 2 specially calibrated holes sems to have done the trick!

One more clean of all the passages in the carb before I get too distraught!

The previous owner did a lot of work enlarging the engine bay. The bulkhead has been refashioned and now the 7.2 litre V8 looks tiny in there!

With upwards of 800bhp on tap it will be an interesting ride!

It'd be such a shame to leave all of that space just empty. Surely there's room for a supercharger  But you've just done a rebuild haven't you - shame.

Couldn't agree more and anyway why would you want all that added complexity and components to wear???

Does your offer still stand with my new car?!!!!
I'll certainly consider it but we may have all the proof we need that our systems produce quicker ET's after this weekend, so you might be too late. ;)

I best start bending Trevs ear as he was/is the rover v8 and nitrous guru
and if anyone can make my RV8 it WILL be Trev, (plus gives him a RV8 to play with again ;) )

Cheers!

I put the front struts back on as well, and just need to paint the anti roll bar and steering rack and it will be back on its wheels.

Some minor plumbing and wiring and the engine will run and then I just need a propshaft and some headers and I can take it for a spin

Well its almost ready for a shakedown run. Just need to fill the gearbox with oil, finish bleeding the front brakes, sort out an accelerator cable, connect the coolant hoses to the radiator and put some manifolds on.

A selection of pics..............

Looks a bit over fueled to me with those 2 600CFM AFB carbs.... I had setup like that 30 years ago on my 302 Ford and it was nice to here those things open up under full throtle but ran a good .25 slower in the 1/4... It still looked cool though

Good Luck Dave

PS dosent look like a WON system on there either...lolol
Hey Dave what cubi inch is that engine and what make ? Olds maybe?

I am surprised that fuel pump is so high. I suspect it will starve. Can you lower it (preferably below the gas tank)?

You know Bob does have a good point there and that pump is a pusher pump and the fuel will stall in the line under a hard launch. I would hate to see you melt the motor on juice due to this problem. You should mount them in the rear of the car as close to the tank as you can.

We use to install a sump in the middle of the tank in the old days with 2 larger outlets instead of trying to use the top tank outlets.Moroso use to make add on sumps for stock style tanks.

I am not sure what your using for a tank so thats why I bring this up.

Thanks for the input guys! The tank is mounted in the rear of the car and currently sits higher than the pumps - although it is marginal. If I disconnect the outlets for the pumps fuel finds its way to the garage floor as it drains from the tank. The tank is a 5 litre capacity with 2 bottom exits (as shown in the pic).

The engine is a 425 Olds lump that I have had for 10 years or so, up until about 3 years ago it was in the back of the garage in bits. The Nitrous system was installed before I was enlightened, and stands me about £1000 so uit will be staying for now

As for the carbs, I can live with 0.25 in the 1/4 just because they look so cool! This is more a toy than a competitive machine, and unless I start getting the racing bug bad I wont be altering the configuration too much. I do anticipate needing a new back end though at some point in the near future...........perhaps a Ford 9" would do slightly better than the english axle!

OK, I have made some manifolds (what a biatch of a job!) and now I just need to figure out how to get the pipes past the front wheels
