Post subject:  How to extinguish a fire using nitrous oxide

Here are 3 sequence shots (video to come ASAP) to show how nitrous oxide affects fire.

Step 1;
Take a propane burning torch

Step 2;
Turn on the nitrous bottle slowly (you can see the flame being blown away from the nitrous bottle).

Step 3;
Give it a full blast (the flame is extinguished - contrary to claims made by people who can't be bothered to carry out such a simple test to prove right from wrong).

Anyone who thinks or claims we're using CO2 or we turned off the propane is a FOOL.

I did a little experiment myself.
Fill a plastic bag with nitrous. Get a off-cut of nylon pipe. Put the pipe into the bag and seal the bag around the pipe. Light the end of the pipe with lighter - it will hold a flame eventually. Now squaze the bag like a bag pipes. Nitrous and nylon burns really brightly. I suppose it should really, it is rocket fuel :lol:

Yes and that's the difference, the PRESSURE!!!!!

Without the pressure creating the force that it exits the bottle at then nitrous would aid combustion BUT there is no point in a car nitrous system where nitrous is not subjected to that force (other than by the time it reaches the combustion chamber).

Additionally the combustion chamber (almost said cylinder but could be confused with storage cylinder) pressures and temperatures are aiding dissociation making the oxygen available for combustion to occur.

While the delivery pressure may be high there is not enough temperature available (by my understanding) to begin dissociation and your propane torch/heat source is generally out/cooled before sufficient heat transfer can occur.

....to some yes but there are a lot of people who watched the fast and the furious that believe otherwise

the amount of people that think a nitrous equipped car can explode at any time is stupid!, ive even had people refuse lifts on the basis of it

Everything I write about is obvious to me, it has to be otherwise I wouldn't "get it" in the first place. :lol: :lol:

However in agreement with Brian - there are an alarming number of people out there that seem to have a different take on "obviousness" :cry: :cry:

I'll be posting vids of numerous tests as proof to support all my obvious statements ASAP. :lol: :lol:

What you mean it doesn't cause manifold welds to melt and chequerplate to come away from the rivets holding it in place of a section of floorpan? Shocking :shock: :lol: :twisted:

So many people think nitrous burns, It's not even that good at making things burn.
Just because it's an oxidiser doesn't mean it's a very good one ;)

sorry im gonna sound so fooking stupid...but if its not flamable which ive always known...and its a crap oxidiser....then how does it aid in cumbustion?

AT 575 degrees the oxygen atoms split from the nitrogen atom to aid combustion

we even have problems igniting it in a combustion chamber....it wont ignite unless conditions are very harsh...chemical bond

More oxygen + matched additional Fuel = more power :)

Some people also belive all cars that crash instantly explode! Im living proof that thats not the case!

And too fast too furious is also guilty of getting ppl to stick those pointless spoilers and neons onto their cars! But its ok, their cars may look like they go mack 4 but when I pass them in my std looking mk5, im the one smiling!

You can also see that Ant does not have his hands anywhere near the bottle valve or the gun control valves.

How true - and the same applies to any 'media' people, because the 5th Gear bunch had the same misconceptions about nitrous.
