MADRod was out at TV2005 (competition to find UK fastest car) in his highpower equipped Sierra cosworth last week.

He managed a top speed of 206.08mph in a standing start dash over 1.5 miles.

To put that in perspective, the fastest ferrari there on the day was a 612 that managed 176mph in the same space.

Scarier still is that Rod actually got to 209mph a few hundred yards before the line but hit the limiter and the ecu cut the gas off, so he actually coasted through the line at 206mph on the way back down!!!

Well done Rod!!!!

PS

He only got beaten by one car, a Dodge Viper.

With an engine FOUR TIMES the size of Rods little 2.0 16v 1980s engine!

Not everyone reads all the forum sections, so worth making the posting here anyway. ;)

GREAT RESULT for Rod and for Highpower.

Does anyone know what speed the Viper did and what mods it had?

Regards

the viper reached either 215mph or 217mph.not sure what mods it had,i would guess either twin turbos or supercharger and or nitrous.

215 for the viper, but i know that Rod did go up to him and point out that if his engine was making the same amount per litre as Rods highpower equipped one it would have been making over 4000bhp instead of 1000

Sorry, was a typo. should have said 3000bhp.

Same point though of course!

Viper was making about a third more power from 4 times the engine size!

What a great result, especialy against Adams Yellow bird Porsche, and boy thats quick even though its more than 25 years old.
I would not use the ferraris as a yard stick though, its the Porsches that are the ones to chase at these events. Good work that man :)

Hi Lads

A great day we actually reached 210.2mph according to the data log in about 1.4miles. The claimed record will be 206.1mph as thats what the ticket said at 1.5miles. The Viper was awesome, but remember it won TOTB Topspeed so its very fast. We will be back for another attempt when ive got the gearing optimum. This may be on 5th gear in front of the cameras & i will let Trev say who we are against. .

Rod,

From what the 5th Gear team have told us, you should wipe the floor with the Lotus on both speed and reliabillity as although they have one of our systems on it now they are very concerned that even without it the pistons will give up. They've also asked for just a small dose and I'm sure it will take a decent dose to match your terminal speeds.

Regards

That would be this car then?

Image Image

I was there for the day, spanner monkeying for a couple of GTO owners!

The Viper hit 206 point something mph, then another hit the same speed, give or take 1/10th second. The 2 Vipers running 206 mph top speeds (over a 1.25 mile standing start), were owned by boy and girlfriend!!!

The Cossie hit 206 point something too! Awesome speeds!

The Vipers improved slightly when they increased the top speed run to a 1.5 mile straight, one of them getting 215 mph!

This was my take on the day, though I may have some details incorrect!

Steve

PS, the second fastest GTO on the day (it broke the UKs GTO record, only to have it snatched away from him!), ran a 12.08 1/4 mile run using a highpower WON kit!

Image

Unfortunately the owner missed a gear on a run, and hit the rev limiter with nitrous on, damaging a piston....

Image

I understand Dave is planning to rebuild, and come back stronger than ever!!!!

PPS, one of the Vipers running silly speeds, had such traction issues, that it spun off the quarter mile when changing into 3rd gear, as the rear simply spun up  .
