I was snooping around and found this: Diesel POP

It's as if they hit the juice, let off the accelerator, then floored it again under dyno load. I'm thinking that nitrous passed through into the exhaust and ignited the unburned diesel in the exhaust.

I can assure you that a diesel engine CANNOT blow up from nitrous only UNLESS another form of fuel is introduced into it. My GUESS is that the nitrous was present in the exhaust system along with UNBURNED fuel and the combination ignited and caused the bang. I'm sure that engine is still in one piece. 8)

It just shows you how bad US brand nitrous kits are, IF they can even cause diesel engines to explode. :omgrofl:

X 2 although it is possible to cause a BIG explosion that can affect the fuel injectors, although why a backfire would adversely affect the function of the fuel injectors I'm not sure.
It was my own fault that it backfired, as I was too eager to stomp on the throttle pedal (immediately activating the nitrous system), at extremely low rpm in an AUTOMATIC, so as most cars are manual it's not likely to be an experience that anyone else will suffer.

Typical flameout from too much nitrous not enough heat (boost). Kills turbocharger.

Can you elaborate on how that works, as I've never seen or heard of anything like it occurring before.
