Currently rebuilding my 1971 beetle, the engine is out the car and the heads are off. I'm replacing the head studs in the case with 8740 chromoly studs to strengthen up any weak links, as I'm not tuning a stock engine, do I need to start thinking about Piston Rings and ring gaps?
I've got the streetblaster 150c with 4 crossfire injectors, MSD Ignition, I will be running progressive controller with the aim of 75-100 bhp of n2o

As long as you increase the top ring gap (and to a lesser degree the 2nd ring gap) by a proportional amount to match the amount of nitrous you intend to add, any good quality rings should be adequate.

As a rule of thumb, stock ring gaps will be fine up to about 75 to 100 HP and then increase them by approx. 3 thou (top ring) and 2 thou (2nd ring), for every 50 HP above that.

ALL engines generate more heat when running nitrous Pete, so it applies to all but the exact increase in ring gap, does depend on material type and bore size.
