I have an e32 750iL with the V12 M70b50 engine. As it stands with a few bolt on mods, it is putting out at ~296 HP at the wheels. If you are familiar with this engine, there is not much more I can do in the way of worthwhile modding, other than forced induction, which can cost significant $$$'s to do properly.

In comes nitrous oxide as a worthy alternative.

My goal is to have over 400HP on tap - reliably.
I would like to start with an affordable basic entry level ~50-100HP kit, then slowly work my way up in terms of power and accessories (bottle heater, remote opener, controller, etc.....) as I go up the nitrous learning curve. This motor is well suited IMHO for forcing additional oxygen in the combustion process, having forged internals and lowish compression (8.8:1) from factory. Just screaming for boost or nitrous :D .

I've read up on it quite a bit, and like to think I have a pretty good idea of what I am getting into + what would be required. I'm starting this thread to get some feedback re: the basics to get into the game.

Any thoughts, experiences, suggestions, and so on are welcome!

One more question to be asked; this is regarding performance camshafts when I install nitrous.
This engine has really anemic camshafts stock, specs are:

Stock:
- 246 degrees
- 10.5mm valve lift
- 112 deg lobe separation

Schrick:
- 264 degrees
- 11.0mm valve lift
- 112 deg lobe separation

Even the performance Schrick is still pretty tame on paper by performance cam standards. BUT in all fairness the engine was not engineered to be a top end screamer.

Which grind would be ideal with a nitrous injected M70?

Would the stock cam be better with a low nitrous shot, and the Schrick be better suited for a higher dose?
Visa versa?
Schrick be better all around?

Hope to hear from someone soon as I would like to get the ball rolling sooner than later  .

Hi Pepi,

Sorry for the late reply but I've been away at a race meeting for the last few days.

If you want to learn ALL the basics you will ever need, might I suggest that you purchase a copy of my book, as that presents the information in an orderly manner and is 100% accurate in all regards;

http://www.noswizard.com/nitrous-ancill ... -book.html

With regards to cam type, nitrous will work well with any cam but in general terms, the bigger the cam the bigger the benefits.

If you'd like a vehicle specific quotation, please complete our contacts page and one of my team will send you a full response within 24 hours.

If you'd like to see/read details of the results on similar vehicles I'm pretty sure that at least one or two customers with BMW V12s (10s and/or 8s) have been good enough to make posts about them on my forum, so a quick search for BMW should lead you to them.

So I've more or less have a system nailed down, on to spark plugs as the next topic of discussion.
I am currently running NGK BKR6EK and the car runs great with them pre-nitrous install. I've read that plugs with more than one electrode are a no-no with nitrous (these plugs have 2 electrodes) so I will have to swap them out, correct?

The actual speced plug for this motor is the NGK ZFR5F, which are single electrode.

I'm going to start off with a 50HP-shot and intend on working up to a 150-shot.......hopefully  .
The good thing about my motor (for nitrous) is that it comes with an 8.8:1 compression which gives me a leg up in the detonation dept.

So the question is what spark plugs should I install before lighting off the nitrous for the first time?

Sorry for the late reply but I've been away for a week.

Twin electrode plugs are OK for a small dose on such a big engine as yours, so the originals will be fine until you exceed 50+ Hp but above that SINGLE electrode plugs are a MUST.

Hi
I ran won nitrous for 4 years on an 850i
Couple links for you

http://forum.nitrous-advice.org/viewtop ... =28&t=4596

http://forum.nitrous-advice.org/viewtop ... t=Bmw+850i

NGK bkr6e spark plugs are one step harder than original zfr5f. Do not run twin electrode.
Upgrade your fuel pumps for >100 shot. Or install a stand alone fuel system. Stock fuel supply is not adequate at best

Regards

Hadi

Doing great Trevor. After selling the 850 I bought a 91 lamborghini diablo and currently working on an engine out service and upgrading the clutch and fuel, ignition systems. Once I'm done I will be installing the nitrous system to spray up to 200 shot ;)

Very pleased to hear all is going well for you and excellent news about your latest project.
For you information I have a US customer with a couple of Lamborghini's who is VERY HAPPY with the results, this is a picture of the OTT system he has on one of them and has just ordered a duplicate for the other, which currently has one of our more basic systems;

Very clean layout. I will be starting out with the basic system that I had on the bmw. Up to 150 or 200 shot. I had good even distribution results with twin crossfires before each throttle body. Should I feel the need for more power then pro series it is
Thanks for the pic above Trev. Can't wait for those won bursts, best stress management tool ;)

Excellent, you Hadi and Grimmjar are my role models for setting up NOx on the M70b50!!! You guys cemented my decision to go ahead with a nitroused V12. I would be grateful if you could share some of your knowledge/experiences - mind answering a few questions for me?

My apologies for the delay, but here goes:

1. Before you installed the fuel cell, did you tap into the stock fuel system?
2. If so where about did you do it?
3. How did you trigger WOT - via mechanical trigger switch or electronically?
4. If electronically, did you document which wires you tapped into at the potentiometer?
5. Where did you tap into for the rpm signal?
6. Did you wire up the Max Ex for the gear selection feature as well?
7. If yes, how'd you do it?

I'm at the point where I have enough of the components to start. Will start off at a 50hp straight shot to get my feet wet and start the learning curve. You have to start from somewhere right??

Anything else that I'm missing?

Cheers!

Sorry for the late reply

1. Yes.
2. Installed 2 T fittings inline right before the fuel rails.
3. Mechanical switch. Under the gas pedal.
5. Behind the cluster. For the 850 I believe it was the black wire coming out of the blue connector.
6. No. Wasn't worth the hassle, my build up times were .5 secs

Cheers
