Hi

I've just started out in nitrous and I'd like some help in reading my spark plugs.

How do they look, what am I meant to be looking for? One of my old plugs (after a couple of years of hard driving) is the first pic.

The second is a brand new Iridium plug after a hard acceleration WITH nitrous.

The last photo with NO nitrous.

Thanks in anticipation.

In order to do a proper plug reading on nitrous you need to do what we call a "clean shut off" under full power.

If you have given the car a blast on nitrous and then shut down and driven home or to a place nearby to check the plugs. They will have coloured themselves to the last running condition of the engine.

The way we check plugs on a car with manual transmission on track is to run flat out on nitrous until we cross the finish line. We then keep the pedal full down and cut the ignition and dip the clutch. This allows the engine to stop while not being driven from the wheels until we can coast to a stop. This means the plugs have not been affected by an over running or coasting engine which is still dropping fuel into the cylinders. So the plug condition after a clean shut off is what the plugs were doing at full power on gas as you killed the sparks and let the engine stop.

Be very careful when trying this on the road though. The last thing you want is to shut the ign off and put the steering lock on ?? Plan your clean shut off carefully mate.
