hi all
bit of advise for jetting please ....altho the car has been running faultless on a 75 shot, im afraid theres no denying that when i looked at my plugs (denso ITV24) with a blown up picture,i could see tiny aluminum specks on the porcelain ..i believe this shows lean,i have no problems lowering the nitrous jet for reliability but my question is and im sorry if it sound silly but do i decrease the fuel jet too..
thanks

oh ive just thought or can i just increase the fuel jet instead..

The first thing to do is DUMP the Denso plugs and fit NGK, as Denso are JUNK.
What jet sizes are you using?
Have you carried out a fuel flow test (while accelerating the car at max), to determine that your fuel system has enough surplus capacity to meet the needs of the nitrous system? At 75 HP your fuel system could be border line and need to be upgraded.

hi trev
i only swopped the ngk's because the denso was a two range colder plug if im honest it was because alot of american drag racers used them too with good results :blackeye: ..funny enough the car ran smoother ,but i will swop back if you think its best..im running fuel 75, nitrous 150,
ive just been out for a run dropping down to 50 F 100 N as you would expect it felt alot less dramatic but ran fine....
ive never done a flow test and i do plan on upgrading the fuel pump ;)

thanks

Trev while were on the subject of brands this is the only pump i can find in the uk...WALBRO GSS342 PERFORMANCE FUEL PUMP UPGRADE MAZDA MX-5 (NC) 2.0

would that be ok or should i send away for the Grams 255lp or DeatschWerks 265lph, which the supercharger and turbo cars are using..

thanks

You should only need one grade colder and I would expect NGK to do as wide a range as Denso so it shouldn't be a problem.

The majority of American Drag racers would use shit if one dumb ass fool claimed it was gold.

Any NEW set of plugs could have had the same effect BUT that doesn't prove, that they will be any good when put under more load, as they are when running nitrous.

but i will swop back if you think its best..

Many years ago I subjected 200 plugs of different brands to the most stringent testing and these were the results;
NGK came out top with most plugs performing well at the highest pressures
Champion came a close 2nd
Bosch (surprisingly) came 2nd to last with Denso being the outright worst, with most failing at very low pressures and NONE surviving to anywhere near as high as NGK

To be fair Denso 'MIGHT' have improved since then but the others could have done so as well and maintained their advantage, so I always stick to NGK.

im running fuel 75, nitrous 150,

Do you have a bottle heater?

Was it running fine apart from the speckles on the 75 HP?

It would be a wise move to do both ASAP

thanks

Always a pleasure Ted.

The difference in price between the worst and the best and lowest to highest flow in fuel pumps is relatively small, so I'd go for the ultimate pump which is a GENUINE Bosch 044 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bosch-044-Fue ... 1c46ae1cad

If it isn't a direct replacement it shouldn't be too difficult to adapt it, unless yours is an in tank job, in which case it would be beneficial to do what's needed to convert it.

 You got off lightly Ted. ;)

Shame its an in tank pump, as Bosch may not offer a higher output version but as long as you're sure whatever you get is capable of more, it should be OK especially of it's an OEM brand.
Main thing to keep in mind is EXTREME CLEANLINESS as even a small spec of debris getting in to the inlet is likely to lead to premature failure.

As you're using a heater, it might be worth increasing the fuel jet to the next size, until you get chance to improve the pump, just in case there is a little surplus left, that would improve the plugs on 75 HP.

Also keep in mind that just increasing the pump capacity may not be all you need to do, to increase the flow at the take off point and that may also require larger bore pipe between the pump and the rail etc.

Try the 75 HP jets now and let me know if the plugs look speckled.
