I'm spoilt for choice now.
Do I just let the couriers take the strain or get the 50ltr home set-up.
One way or another, problem solved.

I've been looking at this as it would be nice if I didn't have to travel and have the nitrous delivered. However their bottle valves don't have an SPRV and that is a big thing to me now after reading up of all the trouble pain rupture discs can be. They say bottles have a VTI valve. Anyone know what that is?

you can fit an sprv in place of the burst disc on most vavles , i have one on a USA bottle and vavle , altho as ive now lost 2 full refills of nitrous im starting to wounder if benfits of sprv are great enought to make them vivable as i have to now ride 30 miles to fill a bottle each way , but on the plus side for an sprv they dont go bang and upper limit protects engin , i will filll and ajust mine once more before i make a decision on what to do next to make sure its not just a user error and if its supposed to save contents well i lost all mine anyway so im now 50/50

still recon the 11lb bottle from Nitrous oxied supplies is a good deal as you get a free fill and the free packing case and even if you use it to transfer to won bottle and use bottle for postage could be a good soloution esp when you add in time and petrol to fill a bottle and most of time never get a full fill or they just refuse to fill won bottles

Hi :)

Umm there is a slight problem with Nitrous Oxide Supplies bottles in my experience ...

The bottles with the blow off valve angled 45 degrees downwards CANNOT have an SPRV fitted.... I am pretty sure I am correct, but check with Trev or Ant first....

Both the bottles that blew those silly valves out which I was filling for local lads did NOT have Sprvs and one of them rang WON to get one for me to fit and he was told they will NOT fit....

I even had to fit new blow off valves for them (I hated doing that as they are such rubbish technology, straight out of the ark )

So worth checking first.....

All the best Brett :)

Has anyone (who has gone down the home refil route with the 50ltr bottle) declared this to their home insurance companies and if so what was the reaction?

In relation to our 5lb and 11lb cylinder burst discs.

A full nitrous oxide cylinder at its "standard chemical measurement" of 20 oC and filled to its intended weight (for example 11lb.) should have a pressure of roughly 50bar; this is then obviously elevated via bottle heaters etc for a run.

Our blow-off discs are rated to 190bar with the cylinder test pressure being up at 250bar, this is obviously to give a good safety margin between the two, which should still not be anywhere near a bottle heaters intended (85bar?) or any possibility of further accidentally increased pressure.

So, the three main reasons for a disc rupturing can only really be...

1) A true accident, such as if your cylinder is left in a car in summer and it gets too hot.
2) A bottle blanket is left on without a auto-switch off facility
3) Overfilling, as vapour pressure then can become hydraulic pressure which ain't great!

A disk is rated as such mainly to save catastrophic failure of the cylinder, but with the margin from standard pressure (50bar) to "run temp" (85bar) being over twice the required amount on the blow off disc alone (190bar) this should be more than enough without ever going near the point of cylinder or disc failure.

They are an “all or nothing” fail safe, I do take your points Brett, they are crude yes, “old hat” yes, but safe? Without a doubt, if there were something better available, the cylinder gas industry as a whole would have it in place.

I am by no means non-agreeable with the WON SPRV, but I just wanted to add a little detail to the discs we have on our cylinders.

Hi Simon :)

I wasn't knocking your bottles as such, just those silly blow off valves, from the remains of the couple I have replaced, maybe age is a problem with them as one was rusty and the other was obviously old....

As a matter of interest , why do you not change to a bottle that can be fitted with SPRV`s - OR - blow off valves ?

It would help WON customers and maybe make you some extra profit in selling SPRV`s which I would assume Trev would happily supply you....

To be honest, when I fill the local lads bottles, I dread them saying they have blow offs as I know I will have problems....or they will....if they say they have SPRV`s I am a lot happier...

All the best Brett :)

Having been burnt by a burst disc "blowing" I think I'm in a reasonable position to comment.

My accident happened when opening the bottle before a run.The bottle had been filled earlier that morning, had been fitted to the bike and opened to confirm all pipework.
The bottle was not heated and it was early october and bloody freezing.

Everyone suggested fatigue as the most likely cause.

Having said that, like Tezz I've had some problems with sprvs deciding to empty the bottle too.I guess the upside is sprvs do it slower and more safely.

I've got an 11lb nitrous solutions bottle +box.I replaced the valve awhile ago but i've still got the original.I'll dig it out and have a look to see why it can't use an sprv.I seem to remember it was down to size of the blow off port.

Warning stupid question coming up:

Can you 'top up' nitrous bottle when refilling or do you have to wait until its fully empty???

Hi :)

Yes they "can" be topped up but to fill you normally need either a pump or my freeze method...

Its harder to fill a partially filled bottle than an empty one.....

Hi Tezz,

We don't have a full customer list we supply as such, if a customer came to us via this forum or our own website and said "I live in Romford" for example, we'd supply the nearest re-fillers to that location.

Hope this helps.

Si

Do you reuse the packing case or will this need to be replaced every fill

could if i wished build my own packing case and would there be a weight limit on the overall package inc bottle

Do your 11lb cycliners come with all fitting or is bottle nut ect extra

sorry for all question but finding Nitrous is becoming a reall pain in butt

Hi Tezz,

I'll answer everything individually, otherwise I'll only forget a bit!

1) Yes, both 5lb and 11lb refills are a round-trip carriage and refill service.

2) The packing cases are re-usable and were created as a stipulation of the carriers we have used and currently use; if the cardboard starts to get very tired we will replace it for you in the charge. Obviously if we've only just sent you packing or the inner shaped foam lining gets lost then you'd have to get a new one, but they do last quite a while if kept away from liquid and treated fairly well.

3) The 11'lb cylinders are as listed, extras are separate.

Alternatively, whereabouts are you based and I'll see if you have re-filler nearby?

Hope this helps.

Howdy all,

Does anyone know of any refillers near to Tonbridge, Maidstone etc in Kent? I've tried Kai Perfomance in Aylesford as listed on the WON suppliers list but they're no longer there and the decorators who were in at the time had never heard of them

Cheers
