it is a pretty good explanation, and it runs with common sense
so the problem is that we need pumps that can compress gas nos back into liquid nos

OR we use nitrogen assist on big bottle :) i think that could well be the way to go
only issue, is liquid nitrogen heavier than liquid nitrous oxide? and how long does it take/does it ever seperate?
dont want to be filling my 11lb bottles with nitrogen :?

also how "green" is it to vent nitrogen into the atmosphere, when its time to send the bottle back?

My pump will compress the gas, it's just a pain in the arse and time consuming to do. Time is money and all that and I don't make enough to cover time on refills as it is.

Lose-lose I'm afraid. :(

it is when its comercial, but for yourself its worth it :)
is it more effort filling a bottle with a few lbs left in it?
with the way my bottle is now mounted, its looking like im getting to 2lb before it surges
so im gonna have to be refilling with 2-3lbs left in the 11lb car bottle

im new to the big bottle refills but heres my budget solution :)

1st problem, i havent got a freezer big enough to cool the car bottle
so ive been testing co2 bottle cooling
Image

nitrous oxide supplies sell an adaptor from the co2 outlet to 4an, and won sell a 4an to 5mm nylon pipe
co2 fire extinguishers can be bought off ebay for almost nothing
a few seconds flow from the extinguisher to nos bottle does the same job, instant freezing
Image

next problem increasing the pressure of the big bottle
welcome to the worlds biggest nos bottle blanket 8)
Image

Image

it does take a lot longer to warm due to the size of the bottle and low rating of the blanket, but it does work :)
1hour on the highest setting and bottle looses its stone cold feeling and starts to feel warm
will be filling some bottles tomorrow, will post back on the results

Trev.
What fittings and pipe size do you recommend for filling from an 80lb bottle?
And how much do they cost please?
to fill a WON Cylinder obviously!

Regards

:beatstick: Moo, we do those CO2 fittings and I'm sure ours would have been cheaper, especially as we have some used ones due to them being the same as we used on our old generic bottle valves. :beatstick:

IDP, The size of pipe situation is like this, the bigger bore you use the quicker the fill but that's about it.
Our standard filtered refill adaptor with pipe & fittings is £39 + post & VAT.

Refil kit ordered today.
Let's see how long my first big cylinder lasts!
I'll see how I get on, may do refills for others if all ok with mine.

I've just done my first refill!

All seems well except the SPRV started leaking after a short time of filling, turned the screw in approx half a turn to stop it.

My last cylinder didn't seem to last long so now wondering if I had a problem there.

What pressure should they release at? I can put it in the car tommoro and set the pressure with the heater and re adjust if neccesary.

I remember Ant or Dave replacing my SPRV once when they filled it because it leaked so I think this one should be ok?

Also no sign of a filter in my " Standard filtered refill adaptor" where should it be, between the bottle nut and the pipe fitting?

I had one fire off recently after filling, didn't want to stop bleeding. You could see ice round outlet so I run it under the hot tap.Closed straight away.

Even tho they're not supposed to they're freezing open.I found adjusting it had no effect, guess ice crystals simply hold it open.Thaw it out and problem solved.

Hmm, that's a bit of a concern as I've recently bought an SPRV to replace my BOD. Might put that job on hold for now. But why would it ice up when others don't?

Mine didn't "fire off" or freeze.
It was just leaking slightly, I could hear it but couldn't tell where it was from at first.
It seems ok now, I've marked the screw and put inulation tape over it so I'll know if it releases again or if the screw moves.

well i have an additonal 2.5 lb bottle was full now empty :-( , they are always stored of bike vavles closed and in a place they never get over 800 psi , fitted bottle to bike as bike is indoors temps can get to 900 but in 2 years never above 980 according to my pressuer gauge was going out for a play got distracted left it for a few days never heard any hiss but it now empty it should have not empty bottle once pressuer droped, 2 say im not happy is an understament  all others on bike seam to work well but these are from a batch 2years old almost , guess my only option as i did not check setting when first filled is to refill fit on bike and heat till sprv lets go and ajust to what i want if that dont work then ill consider other options

I understand that there is a manufactering issue with one batch or an employee error

Im a great beliver in sprv but there def do seam to be some issues of late :-( and as they all seam to let of at diff psi i gues theres no set psi for an sprv when fitted or supplied

Hi I am think about fitting a Nos kit to my TVR I have been looking in to refills before I decide to go ahead with it. My first problem is where to get refills for it I stay in Ayrshire Scotland and can’t find anywhere that does refills any more, I phoned “The garage” in Wishaw Glasgow this morning and they no longer can get supplied it by BOC any more, they gave me a number of a guy up north that can get it but it’s like 100miles each way for me and just no doable or convenient at that distance.

Any ideas of refills in the scottish west?

Cheers Scotty

Ring on +44 (0)1661 834 028 to arrange a time!

currently charging £5/lb

great service, friendly and informative. recommended!

If anyone uses here then you need to take an 4an adapter for your WON bottles. Cost me £4/lb last time.

If you're struggling to get refills, there's at least 1 or 2 around that offer a collection service

Yes, there's our courier service for people that are literally in the middle of nowhere, otherwise we endeavour to send re-fill customers to the chaps at WON if they're local, or if not we have re-fillers in just about every major city in the UK (as long as you don't go too far into northern Scotland).

We do call customers who've booked re-fills on-line and notify them of closer re-fillers where possible, as you can get it filled on the spot, then you don't lose the cylinder for a week.

The only major city our customers don't really cover in Scotland is Aberdeen, or the other grey area is the "back of beyond" in Wales and for those areas we have the courier re-fills.

Hope this helps.

If you visit The netherlands to watch or compete dragrace in Drachten, or on hollyday, or visit TT at Assen, and would like a refill to catch the last ferry back,..Give me a mail, I give you a telnummber...
The only refill station in the north. I use a pump and ask €20,- for a 2,5lbs bottle refill. Little discount with bigger bottles.

Well lost my london supplier now , closest is now 30 miles away and they dont like to fill bike bottles :-( and i can empty my 5lbs of gas on way home :-(

Guess if i want to run bike next year only choice will be to get and 88lb bottle and do a few refills to cut cost of rental

either that or find some one who dose home delivery and dont mind filling some fire extinguishers :D
