Magnesium burns with an intense WHITE light, not as yellow as it looks in those pics.

Also Magnesium is quite hard to set fire to in a cast state as it would be in a manifold, you can weld it for instance.

Once it is on fire though you can't put it out very easily.

Parts of the video look staged to me.

All very good points, although I doubt anyone would risk burning up their race track to stage such a stunt.

those videos of backfires are really nasty and scarry to say the least

They're a damn sight more scary when they happen to you !
A lot of people never touch nitrous again, others keep doing it week after week
The rest learn why and end up here.

There's an IMMENSE amount of knowledge buried in my forum and when I start to write my next book, I intend to trawl through it, to ensure it all gets included in it.

We also need to gather some good ignition info as well. I couldn't really find much while searching for solutions to the Sonic's weak ignition.
