Hi All :)

This applies to MOST older cars although it was a response From Porsche Technical in Germany to a query about 928s like mine which have a PLASTIC fuel tank and plastic and rubber fuel injection hoses....

The query YELLOW >>>>>
The answer GREEN >>>>>

"I have finally received a reply from Porsche regarding the issue of Ethanol
in fuel and their spare part fuel hoses and in-tank pumps. Their reply is
shown below.

It is disappointing to hear from them that certain fuel system Porsche spare
parts for older vehicles are no longer suitable for use with modern fuels.
Particularly in view of Porsche's general recommendations to use Porsche
branded spare parts. I have commented to Porsche that I hope they are making
dealers aware of the unsuitability of these parts in view of the safety
issue relating to failed fuel hoses and vehicle fires.

Strange also that PAG don't realise that their advice on seeking "fuel with
the lowest Ethanol content available, ideally less than 5%", is useless when
the EU is committed to increasing Ethanol content in fuels to 10% and above,
and 5% Ethanol is the current minimum content.

ANSWER

"Subject: Ethanol in Fuels

As you rightly state, the corrosion of the fuel hose, and other parts, is
due to the Ethanol content in fuel, which has been increased significantly
in the last five years. PAG have advised that customers should check and
use fuel with the lowest Ethanol content available, ideally less than 5%,
it should be marked on the fuel pumps at the station by an EN number, which
should give the standards the fuel complies too. 95 unleaded fuel should
contain the lower Ethanol content.

Older classic cars of all Manufacturers are not designed to run on this
type of fuel, so this is not just a problem being faced by Porsche owners.
Although Porsche are aware of the Ethanol fuel issue there are no current
plans to change these parts as some of these would require a material
design change, and there are other components within the fuel system and
combustion process that could be affected by Ethanol, not just rubber
hoses.

In answer to your specific questions, at this moment in time ,Porsche do
not have a change in process for replacement of the integrated hose.
Also , as the spare parts for your 928 will be manufactured to the original
specification, they would not be as resistant to Ethanol fuel as a current
modern Porsche which has been designed with Ethanol fuel in mind.

This is purely about older Cars fuel pipes and tanks not about Nitrous plastic pipe.... :)

I hope this helps :)

All the best Brett :)

Which confirms and supports our position on older fuel Pulsoid seal failures being outside our control (and therefore warranty), but at least we're doing something to resolve the problem.

Sounds like Porsche are missing an opportunity to sell conversion components that suit the latest fuels, so maybe I sould take a look at manufacturing such components, especially as we'll soon have a total handle on what is required.

Annoyingly they used to sell E85 near me, but have now stopped, it seems to dissapeared off the map for us UK motorists since Morrisons stopped doing it :(
