Appauling weather, track opened at 13:00
Did one N/A run in the 840, seemed ok but rather slow at 15.2 @ 89mph (15-20mph head wind)
Then did 2 runs on a 100 shot :D
14.07 @ 95.50 (auto)
14.06 @ 98.76 (manual)
Bearing in mind my previous PB was 13.9 on a 150 shot in perfect conditions, this means the new engine is even better.
In typical Santa Pod fashion, as soon as we fitted the 150 jets they closed the track.

Sounds like there's a PB ahead of you now with a 150 shot. I replayed the last video a few times just to check out the young bird hopping into the Polo? (Not familiar with European cars). :omgrofl:

Cheers Ted, I was shifting manually at 5000 as we have found better times are achievable rather than letting it rev to the red line @ 5800. This also ensures its in 4th before the gantry. When it runs fully auto, it ALWAYS shifts 3-4 just before the gantry, so we had to break that habit

One last video of me and then a spectalular one from Perry.
One of the reasons for my better times is due to the removal of the throttle delay which we found in the settings of the Max Extreme. The throttle setting has an idle value of 28 and WOT is 184. We found the system triggered at a value of 130 (but with a delay) which was prominent last year. On these runs it was changed to 100 and it seems to have done the trick

Looks great, Richard. Your PB is in danger of getting smashed. Bit more heat in the rear tyres would be great. That or dodge the water if possible.

Do you hold it on the brakes for a launch? Not driven an auto up there and curious.

Difficult to avoid the water, as they always have a damp patch there.
Its almost impossible to do a burnout in my 840, as there is some kind of engine management that cuts the engine as I apply the brakes to hold it still in a burnout :( and yet I am able to hold it at 1500/2000 prior to launch

Looking good

I must get some practice in for burnouts and launches. Never done one in my life so could be embarrasing :loser:

Despite the lack of track time and delays it was still a great first day out eh Rich ??

Partly because a load of us got to have some good banter time and brekky etc.
You cant see it in the vid, but after shutting down around 900 feet out and braking for a while. I coasted over the line at 70+ mph, but with a flat 12 on the timing board :D :D

60 foot was a bit slower than usual at 1.7 but the 1/8th trap data was spot on for a mid 10 as I hit 104 in 6.9 seconds. The car is fine. I just need to get the bonnet fixed back on

I reckon you would have made a 13 Rich if that headwind wasnt to strong. I'm trying to bunk off work next weekend for another go with different timing settings. It was only when I hit the button and put the extra 150 on that she complained after about 2-3 seconds with the 450 shot on the go. Typical isnt it. You nurture an engine and all sorts of stupid stuff goes wrong. You come to the track and try to finish the knackered engine off and you cant :beatstick:

This is interesting. This is a video from last year when I was running a 150 shot.
It is exactly the same result as yesterdays 100 shot, so it confirms the new set-up is so much better.

One last thing, there is 1 less Honda S2000 in the world due to it being written off on the track. The guy lost control 2/3rds down and slammed rear end into the wall. Driver OK, car pretty much totalled.

Yes, it was supercharged, but there was a hint of driver error from what I saw prior to the accident (he was blasting up and down the car park) and from what observers told me he had ample time to back off.

I spoke to Bob on the startline and it looks like a rear suspension link let go which sent him off course. So he was either going very quick when he lost it. Or he panicked and kept his foot in. I've seen this before where a mate of mine stamped the pedal instead of the brake and just froze?? I had to yank the handbrake and turn the wheelm to avoid a car in front while shouting at him.

The guy on the bike seemed to have suffered a similar failure when he got that tank slapper on just past the finish line. Marcus said the rear wheel was wobbly like a bearing had let go. He said the skid marks from the rear tyre looked like a tyre shake skid mark.

At least the driver and rider are ok :)
