Despite Santa Pod being RAMMED today (more than 200 cars were signed on!) I managed to get a couple of runs in the Capri!

Here are the numbers........perhaps someone would like to hazard a guess as to where it should be with a decent launch?

60ft 2.6020
330ft 6.3249
1/8 9.2117 @ 87.03
1000ft 11.6216 @ 101.94
1/4 13.6599 @ 110.15

Obviously the start sucks! The back axle is a 1.6 Capri unit and runs out of legs, so I think I will need to change it to get some more mph.

I am really happy, and reckon the 12s would have followed today had I got more track time...........

Not bad given I have no idea what jets are in the carbs and I suspect it is running super rich!

I wouldn't say it was a clean pass.........but a pass is a pass!

Need to get a lower ratio diff, as it topped out at 110........no idea what to get or where to get it :?:

The carbs worked a lot better when the air leaks were sorted out. Well There was only one leak on the back carb as it wasn't torqued down and hod blown the gasket out

There was an easy 12 in it yesterday, but only got 2 attempts to get the start right

You probably already know but just in case;-
1.6 capri has 3.75 diff
2.0 capri has 3.44 diff
2.8/3.0 capri has 3.09 diff

Just my sort of car  8)

Ian

Ideally I want the 3.09.....but I dont know if it is a straight swap for the 3.77........the 3.77 is an english axle and the 3.09 is an atlas axle. I dont really want to have a new prop made again!! Are they 100% interchangeable?

If it's the original axle/capri axle then it will be an atlas. Easy way to know is the atlas has a removeable rear diff cover and the diff comes out that way, on the other hand the diff comes out the front as one unit (pinion/diff assembly) on the english axle

The capri 3.75 ratio is fitted in an atlas axle, they do swap over without any issues. In my kitten i've had 3.09, 3.44, 3.75, 4.65 and now i'm on a 4.1 which seems perfect....but then i do have a 5 speed and revy 4 cylinder.

If it's an atlas, i have spare 3.09 cwp that you can have foc.

Ian.

Is it an easy job to swap them?

Calm down!, double check it's an atlas axle first  (i'm pretty sure it will be though). An atlas cwp won't fit into an english axle.

They're easy enough to swap, even the diff/pinion shims are near enough with those gears. You'll need a new collapsible/crush spacer for the pinion (sets the pinion bearing endfloat/preload), they're on e-bay and rear cover gasket if it doesn't come off in one piece. Just put 'atlas axle' in as a search on e-bay, everythings there.

Ian

PM sent ;)

The taller diff ratio will probably help with traction off the line too, the 60' should be better for a rwd car, get that down a bit and you'll easily get a 12

Well my CWP arrived from Ian so at some point over the winter I will nail it in!

I also have all the bits to convert it to fuel injection, and I have started mounting injectors already, much easier to tune than those pesky carbs!

The best bit though is that I now OWN a trailer so I can take the car out on a whim with no planning required :)

Cool Dave!!

I just made the final payment on my trailer last month. So the one I have been using for the last 12 months is MINE all MINE now :D

Luckily I have a good MG mate who sold me the new trailer for half price and let me pay on the drip each month with no interest added :)

Now I just need another mate to sell me a Max and a Revo system for half price on the drip for 12 months with no interest added

Dont ditch those worn carbs Dave... They may be useful to my Son for his first V8 project which is underway now ;)

Pel
