NITROUS OXIDE ( nos / n2o ) advice forum

ive trawled through here looking at all the deisel threads but cannot find one on landrovers

I run Nitrous on my car and bike and am looking to fit it to my defender

its a 5 cyl TD5

obviously i wouldnt to be using it off the line in 1st as it would probably snap shafts and top speed is irrelevant as it pulls over 110mph ( and thats starting to get a bit hairy) anyways im looking at midrange

mods so far
big intercooler
silicone hoses
itg filter snorkle to gain a bit ram air
mid pipe removed
boost increased
overboost kit to allow it to boost to 25 psi
full live remap
egr removed

looking at asingle point wet kit any one see any problems??

Finished the install. Single point kit with 50 gp jet. Fuckin awesome

what pressure on the bottle? and any videos on off nos?

No idea of bottle pressure but have run both 5lb bottle and 11 lb from full

If you want to run a wet kit then you need to use a different supplimental fuel as diesel cant be added in the inlet,

Propane(lpg) or methanol are the easiest options,
Ive used Nitromethane model engine fuel in my water meths system before and it works a treat, Depending on what you buy, most model engine fuels consist of Nitromethane, Methanol and some kind of lubricating oil,

However the one thing I cant help with its qauntities, how much propane or methanol etc goes with nitrous for the best mix....

On a diesel the best way to add fuel is from the injectors - adjusting the map. THis can be pricey though depending.

THe other good way is water meth.

LPG is great but it is too easy to get it wrong. Either detonation occurs with serious damage or as we found it was easy to overrev if you miss a gear when in a hurry.

If you use the lpg to reduce the amount of diesel you use then this is good.

If your going to up the power fit an exhaust gas temperature monitor - diesel turbos dont have water cooling and the exhaust gas temperatures can get to a stage where the turbo gets damaged.

Some diesels do have water cooled turbos...

The landrover in question uses a GT2052, probably very small for loads of nitrous,
and as you say using too much LPG will cause loads of damage but on the other side it is a more effective suppliment fuel than Methanol due to its higher energy per litre, compared to Methanol and it also doesn't carry any Oxygen atoms, meaning less LPG can be used,

but also as you say, diesel is the safest way to go, but also by the same token, in order to keep the smoke under control when not on the nitrous then a supplimental fuel is the way to go...
