Hi,

I have a 306 HDI and after some thought and advice (spoke to a superb member of staff in the WON office this morning! Thanks again for all the info!) I've decided to try the NOS with my water/meth injection kit. The plan is to fit, test, then upgrade to a WON fuel side bit of kit.

I'm going to be getting a remap in mid nov, are there any tips I should give the mapper? He's mapped loads of 306 HDI's, but not one with a NOS and W/M injection kit before.

Cheers again!

By the way! This forum and service from the WON team are second to none! I'm really pleased I purchased a WON kit, and not another brand!

Glad to be of service and pleased to hear you're so happy with it.

You might like to put your remap on hold until you see the new product we expect to have available very soon, as it will give you far more for your money than a remap of your existing ECU.

The new device I'm talking about is only suitable for common rail engines and will provide THREE alternative and switchable maps, that can give you an improved economical map, a full power map AND a MAXIMUM power map for use with nitrous.

I like the sound of the new device! :D

Looking forward to hearing a bit more about it, release dates and costs!

I know its probably all top secret stuff, but thought I may as well be a little cheeky and ask! Will the device still need to mapped by a professional mapper or is it something that a novice like yours truly could use?

It requires mapping by the supplier before being used by the customer.

I can't tell you much more about it at present but I'll call you (as you requested) when I have more details available.

It has a number of sensors as well as other sophistications over existing diesel 'boxes'. :)

Resh came up to Sheffield again this week to fit his water/meth kit and link it to the Max Extreme.

After the initial nitrous installation he had been a little disappointed with the 150D kit on a 25bhp jet and we thought maybe the 306 HDi just didn’t have enough excess fuel, but when he later switched to a 50bhp jet we realised it was just down to low bottle pressure this time of year – there was a much better result.

Next stage was linking to the Devil’s Own water/meth kit, which required some discussion with Trev and Ant to get their best advice on what to try.

Usually, when injecting methanol, much more meth would be needed than fuel, so we were leaning towards using the same size fuel jet as for nitrous. Also, the meth kit recommended 30% methanol with 70% water, but Trev’s advice was to increase the methanol ratio, remaining aware that a higher methanol content might erode the pump’s seals more quickly.

The Devil’s Own kit came with a very fine orifice injector which should send in atomised mixture perpendicular to the inlet flow, but we decided to send it in through the fuel port in a Crossfire, letting the nitrous do the atomisation. The Devil’s pump was then rigged to feed a fuel X10, with the Max Extreme output signal turning the Devil pump on when the nitrous was activated (that worked a treat!).

Because we were going from a tiny orifice on the Devil injector, and the Devil pump puts out 250psi, matching the nitrous jet seemed way too much so we started with a 50 fuel jet.

The result was instant engine bog-down, so we tried a 25, and that worked really well – a hint of bogginess at midrange but nice and strong at top end. Time was running out so Resh left with a 20 fuel jet fitted and a few spares to try with different ratios of methanol:water. I suspect a 70:30 meth mix will make good use of a larger jet, but 50:50 is just putting too much water in.

We were hoping to get time to use an in-car g-meter to try the different settings back to back but time, rush-hour and Resh’s need to get back to London ruled that out.

It was a real pleasure spending the day with Resh, such a nice bloke.

Keep us updated on how you go with variations in meth mix and jets!

Sounds like a promising start Lawson.

I've never heard of any pump running at 250 psi before and I'd have adjusted my advice if I'd known it was that high.

Of course, I would have discussed with you again once I saw the pressure on the pump but thought it would be as easy to step down iteratively until we got the right result.

(It does bode well for the people using the Devil's Own kits on their own, the pump is a robust unit and the injector looks as though it will atomise very well).

Looking forward to hearing how it goes with a stronger methanol mix!

How is the methanol/water injection kit going with the nirtous? Are there any drawbacks?
Can we use the methanol as an additional fuel source when injecting nitrous?

Where is the ideal placement of the water/mathanol and the nitrous nozzles in these cases?

Hi RRL,

I havent got round to testing the meth/water/nos very much since leaving lawson. In fact, I finished all my nos on the way back from Lawsons!

Once I refill I will do some testing and post the results.

I'm looking forward to this summer! :-)

Unfortunatly not. I still havent got round to filling my NOS bottle as I'm having suspension issues which need sorting before playing with NOS/water/meth injection.

But, I can tell you that I up'ed the water/meth mix to 50/50 without any NOS, and it made no difference, that I could feel anyway. It may have made a slight difference in power but I wouldnt know without putting in a RR. Bit dissapointed by this.

But, as I have the Extreme controller controlling everything, I may need to mess about with that a bit too before I see any increase/change in power.

I will keep you posted :-)
