Only had time to blast through this thread so if I miss anything that anyone feels needs my attention please get me back to it;
1) Even a diesel will need the timing retarded at a certain power level, albeit a high level
2) Retarding the timing on petrol engines is MAINLY a band aid for a badly designed (make that 'thrown together') nitrous kit or to allow for weak engine components, pistons in particular.
3) A correctly designed nitrous system, fitted correctly to a strong engine should need no retard up to a certain (relatively high) power level and very little retard above that compared to that NEEDED by US brand kits.
4) Using a WON kit (especially a progressive one) will not be a problem AT ANY RPM IN ANY GEAR within the NORMAL working range, especially on a diesel.

As you're not producing smoke, it suggests there's no spare fuel to burn when you add nitrous unless your map can adjust accordingly? So I'm not sure what you mean by "what just nitrous can do".

In my case I believe I can rule out having to pull timing as I'm not looking for extreme power and the fact the stock timing is conservative to begin with.

Which is one of the reasons why I can appreciate WON products - a decrepid novice like me would probably run the other way if faced with the unnessecary problems inherent in other brands.

well mike, if your saying that nitrous 25hp first install will make no difference because my baby is smokeless, then i think your wrong because even if all it does is act as a turbo spooler im sure i will notice that... i may be wrong but im sure trev would have told me oh ted when you have fitted the kit dont expect any difference...i mean whats the point in that :D

@teddybare - Your car got a Diesel particulate filter? most cars do nowadays :(

So you wont see soot although it is there but hidden - N2O will have a surprising effect

My 2005 Octavia had the DPF (one reason why it went back and I went back to a 2003 car) So I assumed BMW had gone there first!

no apology needed ;) when you think about it steve why the hell should a modern diesel smoke anyway..just seems in my case it would help if it did, but im very near to running nitrous so im well excited to see how it pans out :yes:

As I mentioned, I just wasn't sure of your expectations. Yes, I would be wrong to suggest there'd be zero effect on a smokeless diesel but the fact remains it would be less pronounced if there's no surplus fuel to burn with it. Either way, I look forward to the results. When are you planning to fit your kit?

dont tell trevor ,but i was thinkin of getting the ps3 slim first ;) ,only need the nitrous solonoid but i think i will get the gauge and even a bottle heater,either that or warm the bottle in the sink before my static test :mrgreen:

We found that a bottle heater was essential on the Furby. We dont have room for a 11lb bottle and on a 5lb it is even more important as the pressure drops quicker.

Ive got to run a new nitrous line and fit the controller now. (We were just hitting it with a 225 nitrous jet on WOT)

THen the 300 jet will go in............... It will go bang or go fast :dontknow:

wot are you like, it will go bang or fast ;) ..was thinkin if i can dump my friends and family ... a little bottle in the passenger side and turning the heaters on would be wonderful :mrgreen:
